The sound of laughter floated through the air as a group of children ran through the farmyard under the watchful eye of their parents. A camera filmed them as part of a getting to know your favorite author segment that would air on television. The camera panned between the playing children, the watchful adults, and the farmyard which was a riot of autumn color.
Everyone knew of the struggles that Ruth had gone through. After it came out about the accident, it made sense why Ruth had withdrawn from the public eye. Ruth had gotten so many sympathy cards from her fans that she had been completely overwhelmed with where to put them.
The camera was focused on Ruth's face as she laughed at something her sister-in-law Rachel had said. The camera man panned the camera over to Philip's face that had a look of love on it as he gazed at Ruth. The camera panned over Ben, Curtis, Louis, and their spouses. Isis caught the camera's attention as she exited the house holding the hand of a little girl who had needed to use the bathroom.
A parade of children rushed in front of the camera. The boy in the lead dropped back to let the younger children rush past him. The female reporter stepped forward to speak to the boy as he walked up to them without fear. No one could deny that boy was Ruth and Philip's son. He looked liked his father, but had mother's talent for the written word.
"I hear that you are known in town as the boy who plays on the farm."
An easy grin stretched across the child's face. "I am because that is what I love to do."
The reporter squatted down to talk to the boy. "What's your name?"
"Francois."
"And how old are you Francois?"
"I am seven."
"I hear that you are already following in your Mother's footsteps."
Francois gave the lady a huge smile. "I love to read and write. Mommy and Daddy help me when I want to write a story. They can write faster than me."
"I bet your stories are wonderful."
Francois nodded. "They take place here on the farm."
"I cannot wait to read them. Can you give us a peek?"
A mischievous look crossed Francois' face. He grinned at the reporter. "You'll have to wait till I publish them."
"And when will that be?"
"When I am older," Francois said before he ran off to rejoin the other kids in their game.
The reporter watched Francois disappear. The camera panned from the children to the reporter. The woman smiled at the camera. "Well folks, there you have it. Young Francois, the boy who plays on a farm, will undoubtedly follow in his famous mother's footsteps."
