I didn't sleep well but neither did Ellicia so for most of the night, we were on that roof, wrapped in all the blankets and holding each other, staying quiet and deep in thought.
When I woke up the following morning, it was because she was groaning and whining.
"The fucking sun's in my eyes," I heard as she whined and rolled over, putting her head on my shoulder as I winced because now the sun was in my eyes.
"Shit. We actually fell asleep out here," I muttered, frowning down at us before around, the breeze cool in the heat, the blankets now off us. I shifted against her, heard her groan for me to stop moving but I just ignored her as I laid my head on her back, moving my arm over my eyes.
"Fuck."
I groaned when she suddenly sat up on her knees, making me fall down to the ground again by her feet.
"Last night happened."
"Yes," I replied, taking a minute to wake up more before I pushed myself to sit up. "And I'm proud of you. We got through it, you did and thank you for telling me."
"So, you don't see me as some murderer?"
"What? Of course not," I grumbled, wincing because my body was aching from the rough bed I had. I touched my hand up and to the back of her neck, massaged it as she looked at me softly. "It was out of defence, right? If you didn't, where would you be now?"
"Probably dead by now," she muttered, sitting down on her bum and crossing her legs, facing me. "Thanks, Rubes. I didn't realise how much lighter I would feel after telling you. I've wanted to, trust me but I didn't know if you'd go running or not."
"Me? Run from you? Never," I replied and smiled when she put on her happy smirk. "I'm glad you told me. Now I get it, now I know and I can be better for you."
"There's other things you should know," she whispered and I looked at her in surprise.
"There's more?"
"Not like that," she replied, giving me a soft look. "I have nightmares. Almost every night but," she gave a soft smile and looked to where we'd been laying before. "Never when I'm with you. It's always peaceful and painless when I'm with you."
"That's why you stick around, hey?" I smirked and she nodded, smiling back before she blinked.
"Oh. And that biker from the other day?" She said, making me look at her differently. "His name's Austin and he's," she narrowed her eyes a little, "think of him as my guardian angel. He goes where I go, watches out for me. FBI agent who hates my guts because I run away a lot but I think he secretly enjoys having to put up with me."
"He watches you? Like-."
"He knows when to give me privacy," she shrugged, smirking a little. "But I was never supposed to come here to Washington but I did anyway. Plus, this place is better than his apartment."
"You lived with him?"
"There was nowhere else for me to go," she replied quietly. "No one else and so he's my father in a way and we moved to Boston four years ago for his 'work'."
"And you were in L.A beforehand?" I questioned and she nodded.
"L.A until it happened. Then Boston because that was our assigned protection place-whatever the hell they call it. But when nothing happened for three years, I left and came here with you. Austin got me in after I convinced him to let me stay with you. Now he's undercover in the MC down the road, trying to get more info about Desmond Blaine. He's multitasking."
"Wow," I murmured and chuckled. "Imagining being assigned to look after a kid though. An all tough FBI agent awaiting his next mission and he has to babysit," I said and after a while, she just laughed with me.
"I'm not a baby," she exclaimed, pushing me down as I chuckled, touching my hands up to her hips as she straddled my waist, sat up again. "So, now you know it all. My brother turned into a psychopath, I killed him and now I'm being hunted by a drug lord to pay off his debts."
"And what happens if they find you?" I asked, sitting up now as my heart skipped a few beats, the thought scary. I circled my arms around her, closed my eyes softly as she kissed me gently.
"I have no idea," she whispered, touching her lips to my jaw. I felt my throat clog up as I turned my head to her, kissing her cheek and then trailing to her lips. I tightened my arms around her, kissing her softly before I stopped.
"You have no idea or you just don't want to tell me?" I asked and she looked at me blankly, curling her lips slightly as she shrugged and sat back. "You'd have to leave again, right?"
"Probably."
"Can you just tell me? Just so I know," I said softly, taking her hand as she kept her eyes down.
"Austin will do everything he can to cover us up but yes, I will have to leave. I'd have to leave you behind too, for your protection. Ellicia Walker would become no more and I'd get another name, I'd have another story to go off and whatever else," she muttered, sitting back against the wall while I nodded because that all made sense.
"Well then. Let's make sure they don't find you," I replied, moving in to sit next to her. "That's why you buy from Leroy."
"Of course. He's not very known and he's cheap, he's loyal too."
"I don't know about loyal," I muttered, moving my arm around her as she tucked her legs up, leaning into me.
"He is in his own way," she said, amused as her eyes sparkled at me.
"Was boxing your own hobby or was it-?"
"Compulsory," she answered, nodding along and then shrugging. "But it's okay, I like it. After a while, when I got good and could actually beat the fucker now and then, it became more like a hobby."
"Austin?"
"Yep. He's worked hard to prepare me for everything I need to be prepared for. The past few days, when I was gone, I was with him most of the time. Just to catch me up a bit on what's been happening. They're in Boston now. Desmond's guys. They picked us up there but they still don't know our new names and that we're here. Hope it stays like that."
"Yeah, me too," I breathed, putting my head back against the wall as I looked up at the clear blue sky, the sun up and in it now, making me wonder just what the time was.
When I found my phone by the laptop, it was ten in the morning, making me groan because I had forty minutes to be at my class.
"I need to head down, shower and get ready," I murmured to her, leaning in to kiss her cheek before I got up. "What's happening with all this?"
"Don't know. Don't care," she shrugged, getting her things and laptop before she got up too. "Maybe we can shower together," she whispered, kissing my cheek as she pressed her body against mine.
"I don't think that'll work," I frowned. "It's not like we can lock the other guys out," I said and gave her a light look when she just cackled and took my hand.
"Or we can lock the other guys out," she replied, making me hum lowly as we started down the stairs. I guess we could.
