"Charles look, I'm sorry for being rude, okay? Something has happened but I just can't tell you. I guess I just took my frustration out on you. You are my friend. I'm sorry." I looked down shamefully at the end of my apology.
He wrapped his hands around me softly. I tried my best not to wince when he squeezed my shoulder. I'm sure he did it to comfort me but little did he know it wasn't working.
"Yo! You guys wanna play with us." A guy gestured behind him, where two groups of shirtless guys combined with bikini-clad girls stood. Charles looked at me. I knew he wanted to go and I couldn't ruin today anymore or so I thought.
"Okay." When we joined them everyone named themselves and shook hands. All of them were friendly.
"Aren't you going to take your clothes of?" A girl on my team smirked at me. Well this was awkward.
"No." I refused to explain furthermore and took my position. Everyone took it as a sign to shut up. Charles gave me a piercing look before continuing with the game.
Everything was going well, we were winning. Charles' team was losing. And I had to admit, my mood was fairly uplifted.
Just then the ball came and hit me straight on my left shoulder. I winced in pain and grabbed it. The guy who threw it instantly started apologizing and that's when I left sticking red liquid seeping through my shirt. Jesus Christ, someone save me the embarrassment.
I saw the guy from earlier looking guilty.
"Hey, it wasn't your fault, I was already hurt. I'm not angry and don't apologize." I reassured. Charles and I left the game. He laid me on out sheet and took my shirt off. I heard him draw in a sharp breath.
"Lena, what is this? I don't have a first aid kit." He informed. I don't blame him, no one brings first aid kit on a date.
"It's fine, just take me back to Sam's." He was packing everything and helped me get up. By the time he took me to the car, the river of red had just calmed.
We did not go to Sam's. Merlyn lived just next to the beach, so he took me to hers.
"What... Oh my god! Bring her in." The rest was kind of a blur for me. Merlyn said I could rest at in her room but I refused saying,
"Actually we have a flight tonight, so we should get going."
"Flight?" She asked.
"Oh, we should let you know. Rose is most probably in Los Angeles. So..." I explained but she cut me off,
"Oh no, she didn't. Wait here guys." She said and rushed inside. Wow, maybe we'll not have to search the whole city now, maybe she has an address.
"We have property in Los Angeles, she must've sold it for money or something." Merlyn explained and handed the document to Charles. He nodded his head and thanked Merlyn before snapping a picture. I didn't know how useful that was going to be but it was a start.
