Thranduil woke Sophia up early the next morning.
"Soph. Soph, wake up."
"Thran, it's too early. The sun hasn't risen yet."
"I know. Neither has my father."
"What has your father got to do with the hour in which you are waking me?"
Sophia inquired.
"We're running away. I've brought plenty of food and clothing. I don't know how long we'll be away, but it'll be enough time to make my father realise how much I care about you."
Sophia listened as Thranduil told her the plan, they were to go down to the creek and find shelter among the ferns, then wait it out for a couple of days.
"Thran, I don't know about this. It's all well and good to protest against your father but he's my king. I'll be banished."
"No you won't. I'll make sure of it."

The two elves made their way through the kingdom, watching out for anyone. They came to the gate and, as expected, found it being guarded. This didn't matter really because throughout their early childhood, Thranduil and Sophia had made holes and found secret doors that they could sneak out through, although getting past the guards without being seen was still going to be difficult.
They decided that the closest way to get through was the secret passage they had made when they were young. This was a risky path but the sun was starting to peek through the windows and they needed the quickest way out possible.
Thranduil quickly jumped down from the raised path to the ground below. He waved for Sophia to follow but the sound of Thranduil's feet hitting the ground caught the guards' attention.
Sophia almost made it over the edge and down out of sight but her long blonde hair flicked behind her and the guards noticed.
"I think they saw me."
Sophia said getting her breath back. And as if on cue, the two guards came running towards them.
"Hey! You!"
"Come here!"
Thranduil and Sophia quickly squeezed through the hole and left the guards standing on the other side of the wall.
They kept running all the way to the creek where they collapsed on the bank out of breath and laughing at their close escape.
"That was too close."
Sophia said.
"If we got caught, we would've been in so much trouble."
She continued. There was a tone of disbelief in her voice, but secretly she knew that they would've made it. Thranduil always got what he wanted. Whether it was jewels, a birthday cake, or teaching his father a lesson.

Four days later the two elves returned to the kingdom to a warm hug, from a very worried queen and mother, and a very sour look from a furious king and father.
"What were you thinking?"
Thranduil's father yelled.
"You are so young, you could've been killed! I wake to the sounds of my guards telling me that my son and a peasant girl has run away! What am I to think?"
"You are to think that maybe your son cares about this girl. That he is willing to run away with her no matter the consequences."
Thranduil answered.
"Your mother has insisted that I let you stay with her. Be grateful. Now away with you."
"Sophia and Thranduil ran to the kitchens to get some breakfast and laughed a sigh of relief that they were allowed to still be friends.
