Judis Naomi Carter
"After the pain, you'll come and loveeeee me and I'll welcome you, your a great sight to see." I sung lowly as I watched the younger kids play in the play room. "Judis, come wash these dishes it's your turn." Ms. Turner says walking into the room.
"Yes, ma'am." I say getting up from the bed and pulling up my pants. Walking into the kitchen I was greeted by the other teens who also lived in this group home.
"Smile." Ca'sandra says as she hands me a dish rag. I just nodded my head. I never saw the point in smiling what was the point in me smiling if I wasn't happy.
"Leave that child alone." Ms. Turner says looking over at us. She threw her hands up. "I mean no harm." She says looking down at her feet.
"Well, you only smile when you have a reason to." I tell her as I washed the plate.
She looked over at me and nodded her head. "I guess so, but you bring everybody spirit down walking around looking neutral I don't think anybody's has ever seen you happy." She adds on.
"Good to know." I tell her. She just let out a breath of air. Then in walked Nahmir he gave me a smug looked as his eyes scanned over everybody in the kitchen.
"What you looking all mean for Mir you just got here and already looking like somebody pissed in your cereal." Cas says looking at him.
He just ignored her. Ca'sandra is his cousin, younger cousin at that most days he would hold conversations with her others he would be off to hisself or with some of the other boys.
"Mind your business, aight?" He spit rudely. Did I mention that he was very disrespectful. He hardly talk but when he did he said the most meanest things.
He mugged me when his eyes met mines once again. "Fuck you looking all in my face for?" He asked with so much venom in his voice.
I jumped because of how much bass he had in his voice. Rolling my eyes I mugged him back. "Ain't much to look at so I don't see why you upset." I say looking back down at the dishes.
He scoffed. "Bit- "Come on Judis finish up them dishes so you can run to the grocery store with me." Ms. Turner says peeping her head into the kitchen.
Her eyes landed on Nahmir. "Hello, nice of you to join us." She says looking him up and down. "You do know you didn't meet curfew last night ?" She asks him.
He nodded his head. "My fault." He says before walking away.
Ca'sandra gave her a synthetic look. "I'm sorry bout his rudeness Ms. Turner." She says. "Oh, don't you apologize for your cousin's actions." She says waving her off.
She then looked over at me. "You can go on to the store, I will take the dishes." She tells me. I nodded my head dropping the rag into the water.
Drying my hands on a nearby towel I followed Ms. Turner outside. Once outside she looked over at me. "Babygirl, it's okay to smile sometimes even when you ain't happy, just gotta fake it to you make it ya know?" She tells me as she unlocked the car doors.
As always I just nodded my head. "I'm sorry, but I can't fake how I feel." I tell her. She just nodded. "You will get through this baby." She says turning on the heat considering it was in the middle of winter.
