(This is going to be an Angsty --> Fluffy fic, strong language/violence warning <3 Also, this chapter might be long because I don't want to write a part two for it.)
You were enjoying your night, sitting on an outdoor patio, under the moon with the Geisha hunter, Michiko. The two of you were exchanging words about the last matches you had played, when Mary calmly joined the two of you in the dark night.
"Good evening, ma cherie." Mary smiled at Michiko, sitting next to you. "And hello, Y/N." She nodded, folding her hands in her lap. The two women had always been a bit motherly towards everyone else. Mary was more sweet to everyone, while Michiko gave a bit more tough love. It was no secret in the manor that the two were likely together. That reminded you of the survivor you had set your mind on for weeks...
You snapped back to reality, nodding back quickly at Mary. She gave a soft laugh, before meeting your eyes. "What's on your mind, dear? Something seems to be troubling you."
"Could it be a dilemma of logic or perhaps.. emotion?" Michiko questioned, hitting the nail right on the head. You seemed to flinch at her accuracy.
"I-It's truly nothing, Miss Michiko-" You started, almost instantly faltering with your words. The Geisha seemed to give a triumphant smile, her hair flowing behind her.
"So... is it a someone on your mind?" Mary studied her nails, raising an eyebrow.
"Someone..." you replied, sighing in defeat. "It's... the Mercenary." To be fair, you loved winning rounds with Naib. Although he was a bit difficult to talk to, you both always made it out, though he constantly had to rescue you. However, you didn't mind that- you enjoyed rambling on and on to him about the match as he carefully bandaged up your wounds. Usually, you would've been bothering him right now, but he was off in a match with Eli, the Seer, Kurt, the Explorer, Norton, the Prospector, and Jack, the Ripper, because he had took time off in the morning.
"Ah, Mr. Subedar.." Mary, shook her head. "You have an eccentric taste in partners, in my opinion. But, if you believe he's the one for you... I would suggest telling him. After all, time is fleeting. While we hunters, for the most part, are already dead, you and the rest of the survivors here.. are not. You are very all very much mortal."
She wasn't able to finish her declaration, because of a siren sounding in the distance. The siren for the open exit gates. You stood up, excited. 'I'll get to tell him right after this match..' Your heart raced, in a fluttery, lovey way.
"I'm going to go wait in the main room for the last survivors to get back." You glanced at the two women, who excused your departure, and continued to talk amongst themselves. You bet by morning they would have fallen asleep there, together. You were happy for them.
When you entered the main room, you were a bit late to the arrival of the survivors of the last match... and your heart dropped quicker than water down a waterfall. It was loud, to start, but you heard one voice shout over the others.
"Get out of the damn way! We have to get to the infirmary, NOW." Norton yelled at the other survivors. You wondered how his voice could be so loud... likely all those years working in the mines. That was the least of your concern though. Your chest hurt from the sight of him supporting the feisty mercenary over his shoulder, naib's clothes even more tattered than when he had entered the match. The pain seemed to grow when you saw a trail of blood droplets leading the way to the infirmary.
You felt a hand on your shoulder- the last person's you expected. Ann's. The disciple looked down at you, giving a reassuring look. 'What on earth does that even mean...?' You wondered, simply accepting it.
