Emily Hart-Lawson. A mystery to everyone, a fascination to some, a dream to one. I am the one. Have you ever met someone who seemed to defy every law of the universe without actually knowing why? Probably not. But I did. And that's what made me so interested in her. Emily is what people call a "badass". All kinds of rumors about her fly around at school. I heard she has done drugs, lost her virginity to a teacher, skipped classes, shop-lifted for fun, but I doubt half or what I hear about her is true. Because see, people judge others based on their appearance because learning to know them seems too hard. One glance at someone is enough to come up with a backstory and a list of hobbies for them. I'd believe everything I heard if I didn't know Emily better ; what most people notice first about her is her purple hair, her make-up and her clothes. Also, the only thing everybody knows is true about her is that she was beaten by her father when she was younger. Analyzing her quickly, here's what would come up in a normal person's mind:

"Troubled kid, parents divorced, rebel, goth-she's a badass."

But I am not a normal person. I observe. I probably know Emily better than herself but she doesn't even remember me.

-Liam, I hear from behind me.

I turn around. It's Romulus. He's the "male version of Emily" as people say. Everybody expects them to be together, but from what I know, they're still just friends. He's the one people would think is crushing for Emily. Not me. See? Appearances matter a lot to people.

-You dropped this, he says as he hands me a black leather notebook.

-Thanks, I say as I grab it and toss it in my bag.

Knowing me, he probably wasn't expecting something bigger than a one word answer. I keep walking towards my locker. I look at my watch and realize there are only four more minutes until I have to get to class. As I get to my locker and open it, I notice a few people looking at me. I look down. Nothing's different. I figure I don't have much time to think about it so I hurry up to my English class. As I pass the bathroom, I feel a hand grabbing my sleeve.
