It's 4 o'clock. I take the note from my pocket and put it on the counter. I then undress and get into the shower. I love showers because I am even more sure that I'm alone. I can easily spend half an hour in one. After 20 minutes, I get out of it and wrap a towel around my waist. As I start walking towards the living room, I grab the note in my hand. I sit on the couch and unwrap the note as I read its content.
32 Dawson street, 3rd floor parking.I've never seen this adress. Plus, what would we be doing in a parking? I take a thumbtack and hang the note on the door so that I don't forget where it is. I then sit back on the couch and turn on the television. It's 5 pm. How am I going to wait this much time? I sigh.
I am looking at the clock every once in a while. 5:05. 5:11. 5:17. Time seems to be slowing down even more every time. It's now 5:26. I get up and go grab an apple on the counter, thinking I could take my time eating it. I take small bites a few seconds after swallowing the other bite. I then take out my English textbook and start revising. I can't believe how pathethic I am. Why should I be this tormented by something this simple? I look at the clock. 5:58.
That's it! I'm going! I run to my room and put on a pair of black boxers, grey pants and a red sweater as fast as I can. I then run back to the living and tear a piece of paper from my textbook. I write:
Gone with friends, may be back late.I grab my keys and remove the thumbtack from the note as I put it in my pocket. I then put on my black and white laced shoes and my leather jacket. I disappear in the evening darkness and feel the chilly autumn breeze run through my hair. I lock the door and get to my car. It's an old Intrepid Chrysler that used to be silvery but is now a beige kind of color. It used to belong to my cousin but he bought a more modern car and passed it on to me. I start it. It doesn't have a heater so I'm pretty glad it's not winter yet. I take out my phone and open the GPS app before entering the adress written on the note. It's 17 minutes away. I drive. I may have not noticed it but I am shivering. Everytime I think about meeting Emily, I get chills down my back. I try thinking of something else. A lot of leaves are falling and landing on my windshield. When I turn left to main street, I notice a dead end, wich is weird because there are still 6 minutes left to the way and the GPS is showing the way forward. I decide to park my car and continue the way walking. The dead end leads to a woodland. Normally, it would be kind of creepy, but at this time of the year, it's really more beautiful than anything with all the different colors. I walk, making my black and white shoes crack all the dead leaves on the way. As I get to the end of the woodland, I can see the big building with the number 32 written on it. There she is. Sitting on a park bench at the corner of the street. I look at my watch. It's 6:23. I didn't make a mistake coming soon. I cross the street and call her name.
- Emily!
She turns around. As she sees me, a surprised expression comes to her face.
- Liam? What are you doing here so early?she asks.
I finish crossing the street.
- I...I really just couldn't wait, I say.
- You really shouldn't have come this soon, she says.
- I know, I answer.
She hugs me. I wanted to stop any physical contact such as this before knowing her true intentions, but I let this go.
- But look at you!she says. You can't go like that, everybody's gonna be staring at you!
- I don't even know where we're going, I tell her.
- Well I do and I can guarantee that you're not gonna get in dressed like this. Come on, she says as she grabs my hand and drags me towards the other side of the street.
