The halo of the horizon arrives with golden grace. In the wash of new daylight, the air became sweeter; birds softened the dawn with their chorus.
In a small church in Hage village, the Sister went to wake up the children.
"Asta, Yuno, Sel, did you have a nice sleep?"
Sel "..."
Yuno "..."
Asta "Zzz..."
"...Yes ^^ " Sel sit up, smiling with Sister Lily. Her hair was a little messy. Somehow, there was dust on her face, accompanied with dark circles around her eyes.
'That doesn't seem to be the case at all!!'
Sister Lily deadpanned and started worrying for the little girl. She turned her gaze on Yuno, who hardly tried to open his eyes. He sat up and then fell down again, now leaning on Sel's shoulders.
'Yuno too!?'
Asta was the only one sleeping well. He didn't seem to get up any time soon. He had a satisfying smile on his face as he hugged Sel's upper body like a pillow.
Of the three, it looked that Sel slept the worst.
'What happened?' Sister Lyly panicked at the scene before her. Still, Sel reassured her that everything was fine.
But... what really happened with the hunting last night?
~ Flashback ~
"Asta!! Run faster! Lead the boar to the trap we have settt!!!"
Sel, however, did not check Asta's sense of direction beforehand. He ran a whole circle, then returned to the starting point, leading the boar to ram into the very same tree that Sel and Yuno were standing on.
"Gyahh!!!"
"YUNOO, SELL, YOU GUYS REALLY DIDN'T ABANDON ME!! DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PLAN?!!"
"Of course not, Dumb-Asta!!!"
And that was how they spent their night: being chased by boars. They still managed to escape, though narrowly.
The three tiredly returned to the church and slept. Exhausted as they were, they collapsed into sleep... except one person.
On her right, Asta was holding her tightly. On her left, Yuno did the same thing. Maybe it was because the night wind was cold, or they had to share one blanket, that they hugged her out of instinct.
... As if she would care.
How can someone sleep in this position!!?
~ End flashback ~
"Are you really fine, Sel?" Sister Lily came and patted her head, not awarding of last night's event. "You can sleep a bit more. I will tell Father."
"Nooooo!! You shouldn't sis... I did sleep though!"
She still had to get rid of whatever was left of their traps! Or else Father would notice..
"Now you guys, wake up!!" She dragged both of the boys up and headed towards outside.
Asta yawned, scratching his head, "Sel... I want to sleep mo- Zzz"
'He's sleeping again. Never mind.' -.-
"Yuno, can you carry Asta to the village well? We're still dirty from last night, so we have to wash up."
"Yes," Yuno nodded, putting Asta's arm across his shoulder. "Do you have somewhere else you need to be?"
"Right, I need to dispose of the traps that we set yesterday so someone will not fail for them."
She waved goodbye and then headed to the forest.
The light that showered her skin warmly, the gentle wind was like music, and the trees dancing ladies, each in dresses more fabulous than any designer could craft; they are the life and soul of the forest.
The scenery was so refreshing that the horrible memories of last night seemed to fade away.
From afar, Sel heard the approaching footsteps. And the sounds become clearer with time. Who else would come to this place at an hour like this?
Her heart beat faster. She didn't know why either. She tried to ignore it, in favour of focusing on the erasure of their tracks.
The footsteps sound stopped echoing in the space. Instead, the figure of a slim man appeared. He stood there. From where he stood, the sun's rays pushed on his back, shadowing his face from clear recognition. While she couldn't make heads or tails of his identity, he clearly did of hers
"Sel?"
"Yes?" She answered subconsciously, then suddenly put her hand over the mouth, 'Wait, how does he know my name...?'
As the question crossed her mind, she started recalling each name she had known so far: Father Orsi, Sister Lily, Asta, Yuno, Nash, Recca, some others villager, the kids around her age. None of them matched the man standing there. He seemed to be a teenager or somewhat.
His breath fastened. He slowly stepped forward, eventually ran.
Sel, on the other hand, stood rooted to the spot. The running footsteps dragged her back to reality. It was then she realized...
"Wait, don't come he-!!"
*Bang!
'There's a trap...'
Sel "..." It's not my fault...
"Hello, Mr. Stranger under there! Can you hear me?"
"..." No response
Sel: ((;゚Д゚)
'I couldn't drag him out there alone though'
She deadpanned, thinking of confessing her sins to God ( and Father, Sister as well) and asking for help.
