Sudden Change
All that you have read from above are true accounts. After thinking about
myself, that of my wife Rita and my unborn children, I resolved to change my ways. What better way
to turn things around than calling my confidant Mercy for advice. Yes, she is the only ideal person
who could have helped me. I was more than ready for a new beginning.
As I had explained to you early, that Sunday I was supposed to meet Dr. Mercy. For those who have forgotten,
Mercy was a graduate from Masinde Muliro.
At 6 am, my phone started vibrating. 'Conrad, leo umesema hauendi church?' That is the first
question Mercy asked me when I picked her call. True, I had not woken up. If you remember that
fateful Saturday the notorious Aggy, chatted with me till very late.
'Wacha niamke, umefika wapi' I asked as I threw the blanket half way down my body. 'Niko
Mombasa road, nimepita GM' Mercy said. I placed my phone back and promised myself to wake up
immediately. I don't remember what happened, I fell asleep again. I was startled with a knock
on the door. I jumped off, throwing my blankets to the other side, wore my pair of shorts as I
proceeded to open the door. It was Dr. Mercy, my confidant.
When our eyes met, she jumped and hugged me tightly hanging both legs in the air. Her breasts
pressed me. She had missed me. 'Kwani haujaoga bado' she asked as she made her way to my
'mansion'. 'Wacha niharikishe, aki pole nilisahau nikalala' I excused myself.
I rushed behind the curtain that cut across my single room. For those wondering why I didn't
undress in front of Mercy, be reminded that Mercy was like a sister. Secondly, I had promised myself
to change to a better person. I wore my towel and entered the bathroom. The same bathroom
where the late Beatrice Biyaki and I bathed each other.
After I finished, I rushed behind the curtain again and wore my blue jeans, pull neck T shirt and we
left. Since Mercy had come with her car I did not see the reason to use my harrier. We boarded her
Honda and she drove to St Joseph Catholic church Mlolongo; the nearest that had a parking bay.
By 0800 mass was over. We left church, 'tutafanya wapi shopping hapa?' Mercy asked me as she
disarmed her car. 'Kuna Mulleys hapa chini' I told her. We entered in the car and drove towards
Mulleys.
Mercy was another one. Not any different from Rita when it comes to spoiling you. She picked almost
everything from the shelves. I swear, there are items in my house till now that I have never used.
After we filled the two trolleys, we proceeded to the wines section. She picked 4 cousins and Sangria
and we left. We pushed our trolleys to cashier number 6, a young kamba lady (Mulley's has
employees from one corner only). She scanned our goods and they totaled 38,489. A figure I still
remember. When I placed my hand to remove Ritas debit card, hope you remember Rita had
