Rose's POV
After calming myself down, I began to think of the perfect reply. "Think, Rose, think. Could it be... Hey Xavier, what's up! No, that’s too formal. Hey Xav! No, too casual..."
Finally, I settled on:
Rose
"Hi Xavier."
After sending my message, I decided to go back to sleep.
"Rose!" my younger sister Hailey shouted from across the house.
"Yeah?" I replied, half-asleep.
"Please wake up and come down for breakfast!" said Hailey
After changing and freshening up, I went downstairs and joined my family at the breakfast table. We spent some time discussing the ball tonight. I still didn't have a date and wasn't keen on attending with my parents. They had already said that if I didn't find one soon, they would arrange for someone to be assigned to it.
After breakfast, I headed back to my room, determined to call Xavier. "It's now or never," I told myself. Just as I was about to dial his number, my phone rang. It was Xavier!
Xavier
"Hey, Rose!"
Rose
"Hi, Xavier!"
Xavier
"So, I was wondering, do you have a date for the ball tonight?"
Rose
"No, I don’t. Do you?"
Xavier
"Nope, so... would you be my date for the ball?"
Oh my God, Xavier asked me? I must be dreaming. I never want to wake up!
Xavier
"Um, Rose, are you there? If you don’t want to, it’s fine..."
Rose
"No, no! I mean, yes! I'll be your date!"
Xavier
"Great! So, should I come over, or...?"
Rose
"No, we girls are getting ready at your place. We’ll go straight to the ball from there."
Xavier
"Oh, okay! See you soon. By the way, I bet you’ll look beautiful."
Rose
"See you soon!"
I could feel my cheeks burning. Who wouldn’t blush when someone calls you beautiful?
I made my way to Emily’s house as planned, excited to get ready together. I rang the doorbell, and Mrs Mrsrtha, Emily's maid, answered.
Mrs. Martha
"Hello, Rose dear! How are you?"
Rose
"I’m fine, thank you! How about you?"
Mrs. Martha
"I’m well! I assume you’re heading to Emily’s room?"
Rose
"Yes! Is Xavier here?"
Mrs. Martha
"No, dear. He and the boys have gone out to buy their suits."
Rose
"Got it!" I said, then headed to Emily’s room. When I entered, I found her sleeping like a princess, while her dogs, Molly and Olly, rushed over to greet me. Their excited barks stirred Emily from her slumber.
As she groggily woke up, I signaled for her to go to the bathroom.
Emily
"Argh! I’m going, don’t be bossy!" she groaned.
While she got ready, I played with her pups. Soon enough, Chloe and Lily arrived and began to organize their things.
Chloe
"Where's Emily, Rose?"
Rose
"She’s in the shower, but I think she fell asleep."
They exchanged mischievous glances, and I knew what was coming. We tiptoed into her bathroom, knowing she usually forgot to lock the door. Just as I suspected, she was dozing on the bathtub.
