We parked in front of my house, both of us not saying a word.
"There's something that happened in my past." I say slowly, trying to find the courage to open up.
"Look Ronnie, if your not ready to talk about this , im not going anywhere.
You can tell me whenever your ready.
I do want to apologize for my part in what happened. I should have just.... walked away and ignored them!" He explains"No, you have no reason to apologize, he was being an asshole! Sometimes things happen, but when I seen he was gonna hit you ,when you turned around, I just lost it." I murmur and let out a sigh.
" you might be tiny but you got hands on you!" He said with a laugh.
He sits back to his seat and put the truck in drive. We stop by the towns Café to pick up some coffee. I really needed it , with not getting much sleep and this cold weather. I could just place my mouth under the coffee dispenser.
We wait in line just talking about what our siblings want to do for Halloween in a few weeks and how my first day of school. I already have a mound of school work to do.
We reach the register and its a girl I seen in a few of my classes.
"Aye, Kelly! I didn't know you're working here." Derek exclaims
Her cheeks turn bright red, when she looks to see Derek in front of her.
" uuh umm, yeah. I started a couple weeks ago." Kelly awkwardly stated.
"Hey, im Ronnie, I think we have a couple classes together." I try to be nice and Introduce myself.
I see she looks thankful that I pulled the attention to me.
I give her a polite smile.
"Yes, I believe so. How was your first day? She asked with enthusiasm
"So far so good, schools are the same." I say with a giggle.
"I feel you on that." She states.
"What can I get yall today?" She says with a bubbly tone.
"Um, can I get a pumpkin spice latte , HOT, with whip. Pleaseee." I say with a matching bubbly tone.
Derek taps his chin and looks at the menu " lets see, ill take the caramel toasted praline latte, hot with no whip."
We pay for our drinks and exchange a bit more conversation before she moves on to the next customer that walked in.
Before leaving she runs up to and hands me a napkin.
" I know you're new here and I was new a few years ago, I thought maybe if you want you can text me or we can hang out." She says shyly.
"That would be awesome, thank you. I'll text you later for sure." I return the smile to her.
"That was very nice of her, she usually keeps to herself. People made fun of her when she first go here because she dressed emo or gothic. Im not sure was exactly her asthetic is, but I thought she was sweet. I tried to be nice to her, but I think I make her uncomfortable." He explains as we both hop in his truck.
"Duh, you dummy! You can't tell she has a crush on you? The poor girls cheeks were on fire." I exclaim.
"You think? Hmm ,I didn't even notice." He shrugs it off like it dont phase him at all.
"You are something else, pretty boy!" I say to him.
Placing my steamy hot latte under my nose and inhaling the beautiful pumpkin spice auroma.
