Dineo internally swore when she woke up in yet another stranger's bed. She slowly turned her head to the side to see if the stranger was still sleeping and as luck always had it, he was. She then pulled off the duvet from her body, careful not to wake the boy up. She looked around for her clothes then rushed to put them on as soon as she spotted them.
She didn't want to have to suffer through awkward and forced after sex conversations. A one night stand needed to remain a one night stand. That was why she always made sure to leave before the person woke up.
The problem with the particular case she was currently in was that she'd been too drunk the night before to remember where the house exit was. Judging by how humongous the room alone was, she just knew the rest of the house was even bigger. She'd thought she'd figure her way out somehow because she definitely wasn't going to wake the boy up. So she grabbed her phone, purse and tip toed her way out.
But as she passed the lounge area for the third time that morning, she'd finally accepted she was lost and then found herself cursing again.
"That's a bad word", she heard a tiny voice sound as she closed her eyes in frustration. Why were one night stands so complicated? All she wanted was to just go home.
She then turned around to face the little girl to say, "Kid, how do I get out of here?" impatiently. The last thing she wanted was the kid's mother showing up too. Was this guy married?
"What's your name?" The kid then asked in her cute little annoying voice. Dineo wanted to cuddle her but also to shake her just a tiny bit to show her that she wasn't joking. "My name is Dineo", She'd decided to say faking a smile. If she wanted to get out of there she needed to cooperate with the cute monster she'd thought. "What is your name?" She'd asked still impatient making the girl giggle. "I'm Vickie", she'd heard the girl say and Dineo swore she felt her heart stop for just a second. Was that some kind of a sign?
"Nickie, who are you talking to?" She then heard another voice sound calming her down. Nickie not Vickie. That was of course before she realized the voice meant someone else was coming. "Who are you?" the voice had gotten close and a lot harsh.
Dineo hesitated to turn around but ended up doing so as she couldn't have her back turned to the angry lady forever. "My name is Dineo," she replied with a smile but it wasn't reciprocated so she returned it.
"I don't care who you are! What are you doing in my house?" The lady now said contradicting herself. Dineo then chose to just stay quiet as the older lady was clearly angry. "Russell! Russell!" She'd started shouting as she made her way towards the big staircase, clearly calling the person Dineo was running away from. Great.
At least now she knew his name she'd thought.
"Another one? Are you kidding me?" The other girl continued to shout now heading up the stairs as Dineo looked around for some kind of an exit.
She then stood there awkwardly with the little girl staring right at her as they listened to the pair upstairs shouting at each other.
"Are mommy and daddy ok?" The little girl asked looking up at the other girl. Dineo felt her heart break at that. If she'd known the boy had a family she definitely wouldn't have gone home with him. She was a lot of things but a home wrecker was not one of them.
Last night she went out and got drunk just like she'd done before, and she'd ended up going home with a boy she'd hardly had a conversation with, nothing new. But the last thing she'd expected was to have some little girl grow up with divorced parents because of it.
She then lowered herself to reach the girl's height and said, "It's all going to be ok hunny. But only if you show me the door so I can get out of here." She'd made sure her voice was soft and comforting and the girl must have felt that because she then took her hand to lead her outside.
"Thank you so much. Now go to your room and play, your parents are going to be fine." Dineo said to the girl once they'd reached the door. She'd noticed the young girl now had tears in her eyes and Dineo wanted to calm her down. The truth was her parents were most probably not going to be fine, especially since her asshole of a father kept cheating in his own home where his partner and child lived. She felt bad for the young girl and hoped her father's actions won't affect her long term.
Ever since she'd gone through what she did, she'd started hating men. Hate men in that she was never going to be with just one again. Because all men do is just create havoc. They ruin everything and the only thing they were good for was sex.
So men like 'Russell' and Michael were the reason she'd given up on love.
After she'd made it out of the giant house, she requested uber and was soon on her way home.
When Dineo woke up a few weeks before, she'd woken up to a room full of her family, friends and people she was sure she'd never seen before. Before the girl ended up where she did, she'd hardly kept any relationships with anyone. She hadn't spoken to her mother in forever and she was pretty sure her friends forgot all about her. That was why she'd been surprised to see everyone there.
She was grateful that despite everything, they were still there to support her when she needed them. She'd been disappointed when she didn't see Nathan there and just assumed he was still mad at her. But she was happy when they'd told her he got married. She still hadn't seen him since she woke up but she wished him all the best, she never stopped caring about him.
When Dineo found out she'd been in a coma for over a year, her reaction was exactly how one would imagine it to be, she was beyond traumatized. Once she'd gotten over that feeling though, all she wanted to do was live. Live life like tomorrow was uncertain. And that had been exactly what she'd been doing.
She'd gone Bungee jumping, sky diving and all the other things she'd been terrified of. She stopped being the Dineo who wanted desperately to be loved and accepted and she felt free.
She finally got home after a while, took a shower, then took out her books to start studying. Just like she'd done too many times.
