Yesterday he walked her home, and today she finally responded to the greeting he was giving her every day. She said it so quietly that Yoongi barely heard, but the most important thing is that she said it. Finally, he got a response from her.
As the bell for the long break rang, he scooped up his things in his backpack and ran over to her.
"Can I go to the library with you?" he asked, walking beside her.
"You can" she said, and moved away from him a little.
She took a random book and sat down at the table, and Yoongi sat down in front of her just like last time. He was far enough that Ani felt at ease. If they had both reached out their hands, they would have touched each other with the tips of their fingers. It was a safe distance, but not too far.
"The math teacher announced a test on Monday" he started the subject for which he followed her here.
"I know" she moaned "Why does she constantly have to announce some tests? We have just written the previous one"
Yoongi wanted to laugh at the sight of her face with a mixture of anger and despair.
"I thought I could help you prepare for it" he offered with a smile.
"Oh yes. Thanks" she muttered.
"Do you want to start now?"
"Now?" she frowned and nervously twisted her fingers "Here?"
"You won't be reading it anyway" Yoongi realized, pointing to the book between them. She didn't even bother to open it.
"All right" she shrugged.
In fact, he never tutored anyone (unless Jitae's homework counted). He wasn't some mathematical genius, but he did well in school. He hoped it would be enough.
Teaching Ani was… unusual. First, through the form. Yoongi couldn't sit too close to her, but when he was too far away, he couldn't see what the girl was writing. Sitting at the library table, they developed a certain tactic that worked quite well. Yoongi was explaining something to Ani, she would solve the equations in her notebook, and then she would pass it to Yoongi who was sitting at the other edge of the table so that he could check the solution without coming near her. However, this didn't always work. Once Yoongi accidentally touched Ani's hand when she was handing him a notebook, and she jumped so violently that she literally fell off her chair.
The second point was her knowledge. She wasn't that stupid at all. She understood math and the way she should solve problems, but most often she was wrong in the simplest things they had learned about... two or three years ago? She could really do a lot, but due to the fact that she had huge shortcomings, she made banal mistakes. Yoongi was surprised that the girl didn't know the simplest things, but he was very careful not to show it. In many ways, Ani's teaching was similar to Jitae's. He had to explain everything from the very beginings three times for both of them to understand.
He had never thought that he would enjoy solving math equations so much. He had been enjoying strange things lately.
He met with Ani three times during long breaks in the library. She thanked him and claimed that Yoongi helped her a lot, but he himself wasn't so sure. Wanting to repeat everything again before the Monday test, he decided to go to her on the weekend. He didn't let her know in any way because the idea came to him on Saturday morning and he didn't have her number. He just picked up the books and directed his steps towards her block. Eventually, he felt somewhat responsible for preparing her for this test.
Or so he kept telling himself. He wanted her to pass - that's true - but he realized that something else had brought him to her flat. Yet he still stubbornly clung to the excuse of these lessons, even to himself.
