Yoongi was looking at Jitae, who was playing with her friends on the playground in front of the block. She was already 9 years old, so theoretically he could leave her alone, but his mom insisted that he would look after her. He had nothing better to do now anyway.
Jitae was a very lively child. Too much in Yoongi's opinion. She couldn't play alone in one place for more than half an hour. She ran around the neighborhood with the other kids, giving their mom palpitations when she "accidentally forgot to mention that she was going out." She had to be watched constantly, because Yoongi and his mom never knew what she would come up with at the moment.
Jitae was also open-minded and chatty. Wherever she went, she immediately started talking to some people and in 5 minutes she had more friends than Yoongi in his entire life. This, however, was sometimes dangerous, because while talking to her peers did not have any major consequences, sticking to adults had. It has already happened a couple of times that an elderly gentleman invited her to his place or offered her a trip to the zoo. Every time Yoongi or his mom were around so no one was hurt, but they were a bit afraid of what Jitae would do if she were alone. They theoretically explained to her that she was not allowed to go with this person in such a situation, but Jitae was only 9 years old. They also explained to her that she was not allowed to talk to strangers but she nodded her head and then went and talked to everyone around, no matter if she knew them or how old they were. That is why mom was always afraid to let her go alone to the playground in front of the block.
That is why Yoongi ended up on the weekend sitting on the bench in front of the block and watching the children play on the swings and slides.
He watched Jitae laughing and running with her friends. She became more and more like their mom with age. Yoongi was glad that Jitae looked like her, not like father. He wouldn't want his little sister to look like him. It was enough that he saw a copy of him every day while looking in the mirror. A bit thinner and without a beard, but still a copy.
Looking at Jitae, he didn't think his departure had much of an impact on her. She had never asked for him or cried after him. Like he didn't exist. However, it wasn't a denial syndrome - when someone mentioned him, she nodded and added something of her own. She just never talked about him herself. As if he was a stranger to her who didn't play an important role in her life.
And it was actually true. Jitae was 7 when father left them, so she could remember him poorly. At such an age, two years is like eternity for a child. Father was just an unknown man to Jitae, reappearing in her blurry childhood memories.
Yoongi was glad she didn't miss him. It was enough that he and mom missed.
Jitae's exclamation broke him out of his thoughts. When he raised his head, he saw his sister running. He smiled lopsidedly at her, knowing that she was about to start flooding him with a thousand questions.
"Yoongi!" she shouted, stopping beside him.
"Yes?"
"I have a question" Jitae spoke very quickly and gestured a lot "Because Seulgi said that when you are a teenager you go to parties and dance, just like in the movies, her sister goes, you go too?"
"To the point, Jitae" he urged her, deliberately avoiding the answer to the question.
"Seulgi said her sister goes to all the best parties in town and knows the best places!"
Yoongi did not doubt it was true. He knew Seulgi's sister from school and knew she was a very party person.
"And?" he looked questioningly at Jitae.
"And last year she made a birthday in the best place and promised that when Seulgi will celebrate her birthday this year, she will do it in the same place, could I have a birthday there too?" she asked in one breath.
