After classes were ended the next day, I saw that the Quittedge team was posted in the Slytherin common room. I walked towards the parchment when I saw a large group of Slytherins all gasping and pointing to one name on the list. When I got closer I could hear what they were whispering about and watched as Malfoy unleashed his anger on everyone. "I can't belive she made the team, she wasn't even half as good as any of us. What the hell." He yelled and screamed like a little baby until he turned around and saw me standing there. He threw his hands in the air and stormed out of the common room.
At lunch that day in the great hall everyone was cheering me on and congratulating me, seeing as I was the first girl in 6 years to make the Quittedge team for Slytherin. The whole time I could feel Draco's eyes fixated on me. I knew if I had made eye contact with him then It would have been very uncomfortable for the both of us, so I decided to just look away. Awkwardly I grabbed Bella's arm "come with me outside," I said while I gave her a glance that had shown something was up. She nodded her head and followed me out the great hall doors.
"what's up?" she looked worried and slightly confused, "wait," I explained. I pulled Bella around a corner and peeked to make sure no one was around. "Draco keeps starring at me and I don't know why," I sighed. "I mean this morning when he found out I had made the team he threw a fit." I looked at bella with a raised eyebrow as she stared in silence. "I'm trying to process this all," she said blankly to me. "What do you mean...process it all." She let out a breath of air and looked at me. "It's just I don't understand why you hate him so much. I mean how could you, he's so cute and funny and charmin-." I cut her off, "I don't understand how every Slytherin is obsessed with him. I don't see how you could all be in love with an arrogant prick."
I talked with bella a bit longer before we decided to go back to the hall. When we walked out of the corner I saw Draco Malfoy starring in our direction with wide eyes, as if he'd heard our conversation. I thought it was odd that he was listening in, but at the same time I didn't care if he had heard what I said because it was the truth. it was now past curfew and me and Bella where sitting in the common room working on our essays for posions as we both yawned tiredly. "I think I'm going to go to bed now," Bella looked at me and gave me a tired smile before walking up the stairs. I stayed seated on the couch and continued dipping my quill in my ink and writing. My essay was due tomorrow and I had barely even started it.
"need help," I looked up to see a smirk forming on Draco's face as he sat by me. I rubbed my eyes and let out a giant sigh hoping no one heard me from their dorm. "why would you want to help me , Malfoy?" I looked up to see his reaction. He moved closer to me and curved his lips, "Well I was hoping we could call a truce. You know be nice to eachother and all," I leaned back and cocked my eyebrows up at him. "Umm- I- It's to late for this, but wahtever," I sat up, and focused on anything other than draco's grey orbs starring at me.
That nigth I found it hard to sleep. I couldn't get the thought of Draco Malfoy out of my head as I layed down with only the full moon providing me light. Why was he trying to call a truce? Was this some sort of eleaborate prank? I thought about every possible reason Draco would want to be nice to me until the sun rose and it was a decent time to get out of bed. I walked out of my dorm, and made my way down to the great hall. I sat down in my noraml spot at Slytherin table while buttering a peice of toast.
I took one bite before jumping at the sound of someone talking right beside me. "Hey Kate, how are you this lovely morning?" I turned my gaze and met Malfoy with my emerald orbs. I watched for a moment at a loss of words, until the awkard silence consumed us. "Why are you calling me Kate, thats not my name." I averted my eyes back down to my toast. "Well," Draco started, "Since where friends now I wanted to give you a nickname, are you fine with that?" I tightened my jaw and screamed,"NO". Draco overwhelmingly looked at me and scoffed as he walked away replying, "Okay, Kate."
I couldn't control my anger anymore, and I was gripping the edge of the table so hard my knuckles turned white. I knew I couldn't stand being in the great hall anymore so I stood up and struted out. I decided to go for a walk to clear my head. I hadn't wanted Draco to call me Kate because it was the nickname ny mom gave me, and we hadn't been on very good terms when I left for hogwarts.
I had stopped walking as I reached the owlery, and as a last minute decision I decided to write a letter to my mom. It had been almost two weeks since I got here and I had not written or received a letter from my her. I grabbed the nearest piece of parchment and a quill as I quickly wrote her a letter,
Mom
I'm doing okay here at hogwarts, I miss you
Love, Kate
The letter was short and to the point just how I had wanted it. I folded up the parchement and attached the note to the very first owl I could find. As I watched the owl fly away I had hoped my mom would write me back.
Just then I realized the time and bolted for transfiguration class, noticing I only had 6 minutes to run across the whole school. I got there just in time as I whispered, "I'm sorry" to professeur Mcgonagall. I sat in the back with Harry, Hermoine, and Ron as we all giggled and embraced eachothers company. In that moment I had the slightest idea of what we were learning about, but I was fine with it because I was with the people who made me happy.
