"So I remember we were driving, driving in your car,
Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk."
- Jonas Blue, Dakota
The next day, a mysterious delivery arrived in the reception. Someone had come to deliver 15 cups of coffee for the finance team. Our team thought it was a mistake at first, but the delivery guy clearly said that the coffee was for the finance team. So, we accepted it anyways.
To our surprise, there was another delivery for the finance team the following day. This time it was 15 sandwiches from our local Subway. The deliveries kept coming to the point the whole team was being a bit reluctant to receiving it. Who knows whether the sender has an ulterior motive behind his/her generous donations.
The gifts stopped after 4 days, and we still didn't know who sent them. There was no message in any of the gifts as well.
But nonetheless, life went back to normal. Well, almost. Social media was still dying to find out who the special girl was, and how she can get in between the Big 3. Some Big 3 experts—or whatever they call themselves—even came up with a list of potential girls who could be the mysterious girl.
Luckily, all speculations were wrong.
I was safe. For now.
My normal life came to a halt one moment when I saw Kyle peering through the staircase, almost as if he was hiding. He was crouched down to the point we could only see half his head—his hair, forehead, and eyes. But being the future successor of the firm, everyone in the finance team immediately recognized his head. Lol. We all straightened our backs and focused harder on our work. Our Finance Team Leader who just came back from lunch was going down the staircase and found his little surprise.
He glanced at Kyle who was still peering towards us secretly. Then he cleared his throat. I stifled a short laugh when I saw Kyle jumped. He turned around and nonchalantly greeted our team leader.
"Is there anything I can help you with, Mr. Morrison?"
I watched as Kyle's eyes wavered for a moment. He was trying to think of a valid reason. "Uh—yes! I need to amend my hours for one of my clients for billing purposes," Kyle explained. "Can someone help me with it?"
Our team leader nodded, acknowledging his boss' request. "Of course! But I thought usually you would just email us... Is it a big adjustment?" Our team leader slowly realized something was feeling odd.
Kyle slapped our team leader's back in a friendly way. "Nah, nothing major. Well, can anyone help me with it?"
My team leader looked back at his team, and his eyes met mine. I gulped. "Emily can help you with it," he suggested. "Emily is one of our new team members. She just joined recently." He pointed to where I was sitting.
