The Night We Met

Two down one to go !

It was 2 a.m. when Rayna heard her phone buzz. It was her boss. No sooner she had picked the call that Ms Desai was yelling with nervousness.

"Ma'am please calm down and tell me what happened.", said Rayna.

"What happened! The award ceremony is on Sunday and we have three new problems in our way. Rayna, only you can save me from this disgrace.", replied Ms Desai.

" What are these problems, ma'am? I'll try my best to solve them ." enquired Rayna.

" The duet singers I hired for the show have cancelled it in the last minute, the food caterers have also withdrawn the order, according to the weather forecast there are chances of a downpour on Sunday.", her boss said anxiously.

" Okay I am doing something just shift my and Archie's practice in the evening slot, meanwhile you please relax", Rayna answered.

Her boss agreed immediately. Rayna quickly googled some food joints, checked the weather condition and finally went to sleep. Next morning she quickly messaged Archie the time. She picked him up and had breakfast on the way.

" Aren't we supposed to go to the office? ", Archie asked.

" No. We will have to check some food joints and finalize one for our function. The one which was booked earlier cancelled the order.", Rayna replied.

Ms Desai ringed Rayna in the afternoon for asking the progress. She was relieved after the finalization of the food organizers. Rayna and Archie went to their office at 4 in the evening. While they were going towards the auditorium for checking the decoration as the stage location was changed for the weather, Meera called Rayna.

" You start checking the list I'm coming in some time." Rayna said to Archie.

Meera with a quirky smile asked," How long have you been dating him?"

" Dating whom? Archie? No, he is just a close friend.", Rayna cleared.

" Okay, you guys are always together so I thought... anyway let me tell you something then, Archie has a crush on you. Many staff know about it.", Meera said.

" Crush? Me? You are kidding right? ", Rayna asked with excitement.

She could feel butterflies in her stomach when Meera assured her. Now Rayna understood the conversation that Archie and her boss had. Rayna went to Archie to talk about this but something stopped her, a voice in her head saying," Are you sure it isn't an infatuation? Can you trust someone after so many heartbreaks? Are you over your past relationships? Are you ready to break your heart again? You know, love never ends well. " Rayna didn't have an answer. Instead of talking to Archie, she continued her rehearsal.

Ms Desai walked inside the hall," Rayna did you manage to find any singer for tomorrow? "

" Not yet ma'am. I think we should cancel it instead of calling any unskilled performer", Rayna suggested.

" You are right but the time we calculated won't match then.", Ms Desai replied.

" Okay ma'am I'll do something. ", Rayna said.

Rayna and her boss were still discussing when they suddenly heard someone shout. It was Archie on the floor with blood. Rayna shouted," ARCHIE !!! "
