Chapter Five, All Is Normal.

As the group of friends awkwardly walked into school, all gazes were pinned on them.

It was a feeling Veronica was used to, but Betty was squirmish under the eyes of concern.

Fortunately, the four were able to avoid press, and various newsmen shouting there last names.

In all honesty, Veronica didn't hate all the people trying to put her on vogue and TV shows, but sometimes she wishes they cease to exist.

She knew it wouldn't exactly be the best thing for Jughead, a gang leader with many enemies, to be on the news.
And to be fair, she didn't really want that attention either, and while she knew Archie and Betty would find a way to make something great out of it, she had already been down that hole, and knew the rush of hearing camera's click and being with your idol's as if you were an equal, would all fade.

The bad things about fame would make the good look not-so-good.

Veronica just doesn't want the fame to get to there head.

"Straighten your posture."  Veronica whispers to them.

"I bet you one person here is a fake student, and trust me when I say you do not want them to get a picture of you looking unconfident."

The three took her word for it, and held there head's up high, much to Veronica's content.

As they all broke off and headed to there respective classes, the prying eyes eventually going back to there textbooks.  Veronica scooted in her chair and glued her eyes to her math book, every once in a while offering a soft smile to whoever gave her a piercing stare.

Class passed by quicker than she wanted it too.

She stuck by her friends, the memory of what happened haunting her more than it should.

It's just another ransom   Veronica chided herself in the middle of Language Arts

You've been through ten throughout your whole life, this one being eleven

Veronica was never good at lying to herself. Some part of her brain always seemed to know what the truth was.

Veronica knew it wasn't just a ransom.

Upon this realization, she slipped her phone out of her jeans-pocket, quickly typing to her friends.

Ice Lodge: Hey, anyone notice anything weird during our ransom??

Jones Of South: Nope, wdym??

Veronica paused for a minute, her fingers hovering over the virtual keys.

Ice Lodge: They didn't ask for money or anything

Archie's profile picture burst to life on the chat

ArchieTheHero: What Are You Talking About?

Ice Lodge: Think about it, why wouldn't they want money? The only other reason they would want us is because they know about us solving mysteries and want us dead. But they didn't kill us. That man could have shot in the head and killed me that night, but instead put some weird liquid in my body that made me collapse

There was a silence in the chat

Pink Ponytail: Veronica's right. Whatever they did to us, they've been planning to do to somebody.

A quick pause and then

Ice Lodge: I thought we promised to have a normal school year.

Author's note: This chapter doesn't really add to the plot. I just wanted a nice little filler episode as a calm before the storm. I'm also running out of ways to advance the plot naturally so you could also consider this a stall.
