My heart was pounding out of chest, quickly sneaking up behind it so the walker won't hear me, I swiftly started stabbing the walker in the back of the skull and watched it fall with a satisfying thud. I began looking around looking for other walkers but I couldn't spot any right away.

Picking up my backpack that had fallen when the walker attacked me, I began continuing my way through the thick Georgia woods. Wiping my face of the sweat sticking to me as stepped around the trees in my path. I put my hair into a sloppy bun, careful not to break the band. Sometimes I hated the hot sun more than the walkers, walkers were easy to deal with, but the sun, the constant rays on you could cause dehydration.

As I walked further into the brush I heard in the distance, making me quickly crouch behind bushes next to me. Watching intently, I could make out two men walking together about 40ft away. One of the two men was talking loud and obnoxiously, reminding me of the rednecks I grew up with. The people I try so desperately to forget about. As the two men walked passed me, I could see the younger one of the two carrying a crossbow. He was quiet, as the other man who I assume is his brother continued talking loudly. They looked similar, they're probably brothers.

The one with crossbow stopped suddenly, shutting the other one up.

"What is it baby brother, hear some squirrels?" The older one spoke

"I don't know, somethings out here though" His gravelly voice reaching me through the bushes.

I watched him looking around and staring dead straight into my direction, making my body freeze. God, please keep walking. Please just keep walking. I don't need to deal with people, it's just easier to stay away from them.

I stared right back at the man with the crossbow, I swear he can see me but he's not saying anything. Keeping my body still I watched him slowly look away from my direction but glancing over every couple seconds.

"Never mind, there ain't nothin'"

I exhaled a slow breath as he said those words.

The two men began walking in the direction they were going. And soon enough the older guy started talking again. Once they got far enough I decided it was safe to stand back up. As I stepped away from the bush I dusted off the dirt on my legs and butt. I felt eyes on the back of my head and quickly turned my head, catching by breath instantly.

The guy with the crossbow was staring at me and intently, my stomach dropped as he continued staring as his brother kept walking ahead. After what seemed like forever, he turned back and caught up his brother.

Thankful that he kept walking, I started going in the direction I had been going in. Looking up I saw the sun starting to set. I need to find somewhere to sleep for the night.

Weaving through the trees I began thinking about the men that passed me. How they reminded me of my family, especially the loud one. He was just like my brother Johnny, loud and obnoxious but deep down caring. Thinking about Johnny made my throat catch. He's the reason I'm alive and he's the reason I keeping fighting.

*TWO MONTHS AGO*

"Alex you need to run!"

Breathing heavily I made my legs run faster. The walkers were catching up to us as we ran through the abandoned building.

"Johnny I can't keep running!" My legs ached with each step I took

As we turned down the hall a horde of walkers blocked our path and began coming toward us. Johnny and I spun around fast, noticing an exit door at the time we both began running to it as fast as we could.
