8. Eldritch
The light of the fire licked the walls of the cave. The survivors sat huddled around it. 2 woman and a man. They were all thin and weak. From the darkness they heard an eldritch screech. The 3rd in the last 10 minutes but what unnerved them was that each time it sounded closer and more desperate. They all glanced at each other, a nervousness painting each of their pale faces. After some arguing back and forth one of the women decided to investigate. She picked up a torch and began to venture down towards the source of the noise. She walked with uneasy steps as the small aura of light illuminated only a few feet in front of her. Each step brought her and closer to the noise. She froze up as she heard the screech mere inches behind her. The others watched in horror as they saw the torch snuff out and heard her screams cut short by the sound of tearing and crunching. The other woman took off running while the man sat still in fear. It wasn't long before he heard her screams echo through the cave. His eyes darted around the cave as the creature's eldritch calls sent shivers down his spine. Its imperceivable form danced just out of reach of the fires light as it began to die. His body trembled as the once roaring fire became but a spark as he was plunged into darkness, fully at the mercy of whatever was now with him.
