(Canon Character) has known Tim since year one at college and the two had become fast friends. They learned of the issues with his vocal cords, the fact that he spent his childhood in a mental hospital, everything. But the one thing they didn't know was the surgery Tim had gotten on his vocal cords over the summer before their last year of college. Nor did they know of the vocal therapy he attended to see if the surgery had been a success.
First day of their final year came quickly, and (Canon Character) was waiting under the same tree they waited at every morning for their friend, and crush, to arrive. Seeing Tim making his way through the other students towards them, they opened their mouth to call out, but he raised a hand to stop them. Coming to a stop in front of his friend, Tim took a deep breathe and looked at them, grabbing their hands and intertwining their fingers, looking at them nervously.
The therapy had been to allow him to learn to actually speak once he'd revovered from the surgery to fix the damage, and this was the first time he said something in front of anyone else but the people working with him.
