Sunsets

"Neh, Killua,"

"Hm?"

"What's your opinion on sunsets?"

The albino glanced over at Gon, who had his gaze fixed on the setting ball of flames.

They were sitting on an overhang in a patch of long grass that tickled when you walked through it. Trees enclosed the area, the dark green thicket dividing the two males from the rest of humanity; for the time being at least.

The hum of ocean waves was heard below, crashing against rocks and crawling back down.
Reflections of the sky got muddled in the moving waters, but were vibrant nonetheless.

"What do I think about sunsets?"

Killua repeated, causing the other to nod, glancing over before refocusing on the scenery in front.

"Hmm, I don't know, I've never really had time for them."

The snowy one said, sitting up.

The sky was full of different colors and hues, ranging from rusty oranges to pale pinks to shocking yellows.
Clouds dotted along the horizon, sliding away slowly.

The lazuline eyes fixed on Gon, who was sitting with his knees pulled up to his chest, arms wrapped around them.

"What about you Gon? What do you think about sunsets?"

"I think people don't cherish them enough."

Killua, who had his curiosity piqued, cocked his head to the side, a motion which didn't go unnoticed by the other.

"Just, sunsets are one of the only natural things in the world, and I don't think people notice that. Like, they don't take in the beauty of them before it's too late."

The snowy one, who was usually good at interpreting things, was slightly confused.
It shone in his eyes and as Gon noticed, he let out a sigh, carding his fingers through the ashy hair.

Tilting his head up, a focused look was painted on his face as he tried to think up words to string together in a reasonable manner.

"People.. people are so close-minded that they have trouble comprehending that a sunset isn't something that they are in charge of. It's, it isn't something you can own, or but a label on. You also can't create a sunset, it happens with natural forces."

The amber eyes closed out of frustration, and reopened.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is, people don't appreciate sunsets until they realize it's their last one."

Everything stilled.

The breeze stopped ruffling the leaves, the mild chirping of birds slowed, and the atmosphere got colder.

Killua stared at the other in shock. He never thought that Gon would experience such emotions over sunsets. They seemed so simple to him, so insignificant, but now there was a new perspective.
It gave the setting sun a different, darker view.

Shuddering, the albescent haired boy squeezed his eyes shut, trying to shake moments from years ago as they pooled in his mind.

A nudge forced him back into reality, and a concerned raven haired boy was sitting over him, facial features smudged with worry.

"Killua? Are you alright?"

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine."

He muttered, fidgeting with a blade of grass.

Suddenly, he felt a warm hand under his chin, slightly pushing it up.

Making eye contact with Gon, Killua's once pale cheeks were now dusted with a coral color, matching the sky in the background.

"I'm sorry for making you feel bad, I didn't mean to rouse up old memories."

The tanner of the two murmured quietly, face scrunched up in a pout.

The albino chuckled lightly, since the bronze eyes boy was the only one who could read him like a book.

"It's alright Gon, I know you didn't mean it."

Killua stated gently, tugging the other over so that he was sitting beside him.

Draping an arm around his shoulders, the snowy one gazed over at Gon, who still looked upset.

"Since we both know this isn't our last sunset, how about we enjoy it, together?"

To that the amber eyes looked up, and a small smile tugged on the owners lips.

"Mm!"
