Oakley P.O.V.

We arrived at Essentia Health where I usually get my checkups and such. I really don't want to do this today. It was already a horrible day with everyone at school. We got out of the car and headed towards the doors. I opened the door for my mom and she thanked me. Once my mom signed me in, we sat down in the waiting area for my name to be called. "Oakley Thompson", the young eager looking nurse said. I got up and told my mom she didn't need to come with me. Nurse Anne took my height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. She asked me if I was feeling okay lately and when my last period was. I told her that I have been throwing up lately and my last one was a few months ago. She had me do a survey on the computer that asked about drinking, drugs, sex, feeling safe at home, and physical activity.

My doctor, Doctor Swenson, knocked on the door then came in and we talked about the answers to my survey. She asked me if I could take a pregnancy test since my period is late, I've had sex, and I have been throwing up. I took the pregnancy test and it was of course positive. She then proceeded to talk to me about my options and she also talked to me about how using protection is important and informed me of what my state offers. I told her that we did and she told me it isn't 100% accurate, nothing it except abstinence. I asked her if she was going to tell my mom about me being pregnant. She told me that she would only have to tell my parents if it is in my best interest. Although, she did encourage me to tell my parents immediately. I'm relieved that she isn't going to. She also told me that I need to schedule an appointment with an obstetrician in a few weeks for an ultrasound.

After the appointment, my mom and I went to get ice cream at The Ice Cream Shoppe. They have all sorts of options here. We ate our ice cream in the car as we headed home for the night. By the time we got home, it was almost 5 o'clock. I immediately went into my room and got a text from Derek asking if I wanted to go out for some food. I went downstairs and asked my mom then texted Derek back saying yes and to pick me up in 10 minutes.

Derek texted me that he was here. I ran down the stairs and yelled bye mom. She told me I needed to be back by 8 o'clock since I have homework and it is a school night. I hate that we always get so much homework all the time. As I walk to the car I see Derek in a black tee and jeans with his short brown hair like it usually is. His outfit is so simple yet so cute! I've always loved his messy brown hair. I got into the car and he was jamming out to music. The atmosphere in the car was definitely tense, to say the least. He's probably mad at me that I didn't tell him. I didn't know how to tell him, just like I didn't know how to really tell Matthew or Lily. "How are you doing today, Derek?" I said to ease the silence and tension.

"My day was shocking." He sourly said. We pulled up to the diner right then, thankfully. We got out of the car and, like a gentleman, he opened the door to the diner for me, even though he was angry with me. We went to one of the only blue booths and sat down.

After we ordered our food, Derek cleared his throat as if he was about to speak. "I can't believe that you didn't tell me you were pregnant!" He calmly stated. I could tell he was trying his best not to get angry. I've never seen his eyes look so angry before, they're usually a soft golden brown, not an angry dark brown. With all the hormones coursing through my body and the fact that I was ashamed, my eyes started to fill with tears. I looked up at the white ceiling trying to make the tears go away, but that only made them start to run down my face. When Derek saw me crying he immediately came over to my side of the booth and hugged me sideways as best as he could. His face wasn't all scrunched up with anger anymore it has softened into his usual face that I know and love.

"Oaks it's okay, please stop crying. I want my happy Oakley back. I'm not mad at you anymore okay? I just want to know why you didn't tell me." He said softly by my ear.

"I just didn't know how to tell you, I didn't want you to be disappointed in me," I said while sniffling trying to stop or at least slow down my tears.

"Oaks, I just want to help you in any way that I can. We've been best friends forever! We will stay best friends through everything." He sweetly replied with. Our food arrived right after he said that. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a hot chocolate. Derek ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a Pepsi. We happily ate our food in silence.

After we finished eating, I told him that he was the best for taking me out for a much-needed break from life and saying that we will stay best friends through everything as he drove me home. I told him that I lost a great number of friends today because everyone found out I was pregnant. He told me not to worry about all those fakes, because if they were true friends they would've stuck by you. Once we got to my house, we hugged and said goodbye.

When I got into the house I told my mom I had a great time, she was going to ask anyway, and went into my bathroom to shower. I got dressed in some sweatpants and a T-shirt. I then began to do my homework for a couple of hours. Finally, I could go to bed and hopefully forget about the doctor's visit and all my friends leaving me.
