Chapter 8

Oakley P.O.V.

1 month later

I woke up on Thursday morning to Lily's mom, Penelope, telling me to wake up for school. I've been sleeping at Lily's house in their guest bedroom for about a week. Lily was already awake, dressed, and eating breakfast. I got up, went to the bathroom, ate some breakfast, and got dressed in a black hoodie and yoga pants because I'm starting to show a little. People already know that I am pregnant, but if I was showing then it would be different, I think.

Lily drove herself and I to school. "Hey Lil, I was wondering if you could drive me to my job at Casa Latte."

"Yea Oaks, I'll drive you after school. When is your ultrasound appointment?"

"My appointment is at 4 tomorrow, so I don't work. Are you going to come in with me? Or should I see if Derek will?"

"I can definitely drive you, it doesn't matter. I can come in if you want or if you want Derek or both of us. Either way is fine."

"I do really want you to come. Should I ask Derek if he wants to come?" I asked Lily.

"If you want him to go to Oaks. He will probably come." She honestly told me. I just nodded my head. I should ask him to come. I mean he means the world to me and he always has. We arrive at school with time to spare. So, we went to our lockers to get what we needed. I had packed a lunch full of food that doesn't make me nauseous and is good for the baby. Lily always has food at their house, I mean she always is hungry and eating, so it makes tons of sense.

Suddenly I see Derek coming over. I never noticed how handsome he is, how soft and beautiful his golden-brown eyes are. Omg, he is looking at me. Has he always looked at me this way? Is this me having hormones? Or am I starting to have feelings? I don't know what this is supposed to be like? I wish I could talk to someone about this, but no one understands. I breathe out a loud sigh and my friends look at me weird. Derek, being such a caring friend, immediately asks me what's wrong. "Nothing is wrong Derek, just thinking and confused is all."I tried to reassure him.

"Are you sure Oaks? You know I'm here for you if you need to talk or think out loud or anything." He told me with a smile. I've never noticed that he looks at me directly in the eyes when he is talking to me. I gave him a cheerful smile back and nodded my head. I should talk to him about stuff that I'm thinking I mean he has been my best friend forever. I am not going to talk to anyone about my feelings or hormones or whatever they are for Derek. What if it isn't just hormones?

Finally, lunch comes around and I start eating immediately. Kaitlyn, who Matthew cheated on me with, came over to the lunch table I was sitting at. I noticed that she was pregnant. Her bump was more visible than mine, but my bump is a little bigger and concealed. Since when has she been pregnant? Who got her pregnant? How pregnant she is? What if it is Matthew's baby? Maybe that's why he wants nothing to do with me. No, she isn't pregnant with his baby. That's not possible. I'm sure of it. Right? Have I been so self-involved that I haven't noticed anyone around me? I feel so horrible. What else have I missed? I am a horrible friend. I need to check in with my friends. "Oakley, I know we aren't friends or anything, but I just want to tell you that you're not the only one Matthew got pregnant." She said then walked away.

I sat there speechless, staring, and not eating. Derek comes over and notices I'm not eating, which means something is wrong. "What's wrong?" He asked me concerned. I just pointed to Kaitlyn and started mumbling. "Oakley I can't understand you. I know you're pointing to Kaitlyn, but what about her." I point to my stomach then point at Kaitlyn. "Yeah she is pregnant, nobody knows by who though."

I took a few deep breaths and was somehow able to say "Matthew's the dad."

Derek looked at me in absolute shock. "Matthew got two girls pregnant?!" Derek said a little too loud, now everyone was staring at us. Will they assume it is Kaitlyn? Or will they think it is another girl? Lily walked into the lunchroom and saw that everyone had their attention on one person. She looked over and her face changed from curiosity to sympathy. She walked over and sat down. "Ummmm I know this is a quite obvious question, but why is everyone staring? They already know Oakley is pregnant."

"I accidentally said a little too loud that Matthew got two girls pregnant and before you ask who he also is the father of Kaitlyn's baby." He said and mouthed sorry to me. I had just gotten back to not being the center of attention to everyone's stares. I got up from the lunch table, simply grabbed my things, and leisurely walked out of the lunchroom. I am so done running away from things. I don't want to be stared at, but I will not be chased out of the lunchroom like some little girl! I will have pride in myself and not let all the stares or whispers get to me, I am way stronger than that and this baby deserves to have a mother who is a fighter! My friends followed me out just as leisurely as I was. I asked Derek to come right beside me in the hall. Once he was standing right there I turned my whole body so we were face to face "Derek would you do me the honor of coming to my ultrasound appointment with me and possibly Lily?" I asked him while I was biting my bottom lip nervously.

"Yes I will do the honor," he said while starting to laugh. I began to laugh with him and Lily joined along too.
