Katherine got home and set the journal on her desk and then the frame on her bedside table. She smiled widely and then got up and got dressed. Her mother had brought her this stunning new dress. It wasn't a ball gown by any means but it wasn't anything like her day to day dresses. It was a perfect in between evening gown. She found some sparkling hair pins and pinned her hair up and out of her face. She applied a little makeup and then waited for Jack to arrive. She was nervous but also excited for the evening. She went and sat at her desk and wrote about the day so far in her current journal. She'd began writing in it when she first started working for The Sun when she had just turned 15 and had been offered her 2 year paid internship. Soon there was a knock on her door.

"It's me Ace, can I come in?" Jack said.

"Of course. The door is unlocked." She heard the sound of the doorknob turn and Jack walked in. She kept her head down to finish writing her sentence and then looked up. "Oh my gosh. Jack. Wow. I never expected to see you like this. Gosh you look incredible." She beamed as she stood and went over to him.

"You look gorgeous yourself Ace." He said placing his hands on her hips, admiring her outfit. "I won't be able to take my eyes off you all evening." She chuckled.

"I never in my life expected to see you in a suit. But I'm so glad you're wearing your newsie cap. You wouldn't be you without it."

"I know. I wore this yesterday without the hat to see if everything fit and I hated it. I don't feel super comfortable in it still but I feel must better with my cap on. It's just who I am. I'm not Jack Kelly without a cap on." She smiled and pulled him into a hug.

"I love it." She smiled. "Where did you even get this?"

"Miss Medda. I was around at the theatre yesterday and I told her about tonight and she said I'd have to dress for the occasion and got this out of their costumes cupboard. I hope you like it."

"I love it. You look incredibly handsome," she said resting her hands on his chest. "It makes me want to do this." She said, grabbing his neck and kissing him forcefully. He kissed her back in the same way, his arms across her back and on her hips. "I love you." She said pulling back slowly and resting her forehead on his.

"I love you too Ace." He gave her a soft kiss again and then stepped away.

"Okay. Let's see what we can do about your jaw. Do you want me to try and cover it up?"

"Yes please. I think it's safer than having to explain about my Father. Talking about him will only make your father hate me more." She took him to her dresser and sat him down. She looked at the makeup she owned and applied some skin toned cream to his jaw and very carefully used a sponge to make it look natural. "There. You can hardly tell anything happened to you." Just be careful not to touch it but I'm sure you wouldn't anyway because of the pain."' She said placing her hands on his shoulders.

"Thanks Kath. You're an Angel." She smiled and bent over to kiss his cheek. She looked at the two of them and then looked down at Jack's head. She removed his cap, ruffled the hair a little bit and put it back on.

"There. That's better. It looked too neat before. I like it a little scruffy." She smiled. "Are you ready to go?" She said squeezing his shoulders.

"Yeah. I think so." He said softly, placing his hands over hers.

"Okay let's go," She stood back and let Jack get up. She picked up her purse which pretty much had just her key in it. She took his hand with her spare one and they left, Katherine locking the door behind her.
