the street was clear
and up ahead it appeared endless, stretching downwards all the way to venus. the dots on the road went on and on, and eventually seemed just like a straight line. the traffic lights blinked in their due time, and he began to walk down the sidewalk, feeling his legs ache a bit because of the freezing air that turned his breath into a light mist. 'my god, as i walk this path alone, so do i roam life alone. is company too much to ask for?' and holding that thought he reached the other side, just as the cars were starting to move again. his nose, his hands, his lips and arms felt sore and really, really cold, but he tried not to show his affliction; he didn't want anyone to think there was something odd about him. 'coward, coward, coward', whispered the voice in his head, whom he called Jacinda, 'you should've called'. he felt rage begin to boil inside him, but he couldn't let her get the better of him, for getting angry at Jacinda would only help fuel her annoyance. 'Quit it, Jacinda; i'm not in the mood for you right now,' he paused a second to think, and then said 'you know what? i'm never in the mood for you'. and with that final answer, he locked jacinda back in the box at the bottom of his brain.
