Hey. My name is Bryn. I am an alpha wolf. I live for war, hunting, and fighting to stay on top. Other alphas fear me. And they should. I do not give up easily, I am strong, and I will do anything to protect my pack. If somebody tells me I can't do something, I do everything in my power to prove them wrong. I am wired that way.

But the thing is, I am not just a wolf.

I am a seventeen year old teenager, and just like all the other teenagers at Westpoint High School in California, I sit in class, do my homework (most of the time), and have a group of friends that I always hang out with.

One difference; my group of friends and I are werewolves. We are actually two packs, but my best friend, Calla, is the alpha of the other pack. We are not the "half-human half wolf that only turns at the full moon" type of werewolf. We turn into real wolves, and we can phase anytime we want. We're called Guardians.

We protect the mortals, from both the evil we kill, and the truth about my world. They live their lives thinking that they are on top of the food chain, but if they knew about me, the packs, or what we fight (or even eat) on a daily basis, they would be at the very bottom. And dead.

Without us the human race would be extinct, we are the reason they don't all get killed... or worse. Only rarely do humans see anything, and if they do we fix it, create some reason that people will believe. Dangerous gangs, overpopulation of some supposedly extinct animal, or once we even used gamma radiation as an excuse to cover for a war that caused damage to two major cities.

Lucky for mortals, we aren't as interested in them as other creatures they don't know about. Guardians are the only thing that keeps the mortals alive.

Our world spins out of control when we get news of something we have to do within a year or lose our packs.

Neither Calla nor I wanted what we got... and lost.

My paws make no sound as i walk along the creek. I'm hunting on the mountain, near my favorite spot. i near a second heartbeat and quiet breathing. A young buck placed his head down, drinking the clear, cold water. i filled my lungs with the salty air flowing off the ocean.

He made no notion as if he saw me so i crouched and prepared to spring at him. it was easy to take him down, he didnt run, he didnt fight. right as i tore into its shoulder, i heard a cocky voice enter my head.

Hey Bryn. any for me? i growled in response. it was Shay, a member of my pack who never took anything seriously.

Go hunt for yourself.

Oh, ya know. i would but i just dont feel like it today. Besides your not going to eat a whole deer by yourself.

i growled at him again, but sat down and started eating off the shoulder. I watched from the corner of my eye as Shay laid down on his belly and crawled towards my kill. he knew i wouldnt do anything, but he was still careful. Especailly since I was his alpha.

Shay began to eat the ribs and looked at me. whats wrong? don't tell me its nothing because i can tell you are thinking hard about something.

i yawned and licked my chops. when i went to patrol for a friend last weekend there was almost triple the number of Searchers as there was a month or two ago.

Shay ripped another chunk from the carcass, oh. Then the population is going up? Good kill by the way.

Thanks, it is pretty good. Either the population is going up or they are gathering for something. A few storm clouds had gathered and were rising above the horizon. Looking up from the picked deer, I find I can't see Shay any more. I stood up and walked towards the creek to wash off.
