"Uuugh..." The girl slowly opened her eyes, a guttural sound escaping her lips. Without needing to focus, she could tell that she was lying down in a bed in a dimly lit room. Years of training had sharpened this instinct to a point like the edge of a blade.
"Oh good, you're awake." A man in a white coat with goggles over his eyes was standing next to the bed, looking down at her. "How are you feeling?"
"Wh-What d'you mean-" The memories of the previous day came back at an overwhelming speed. "Y-Yeah. Those mercenaries got me good, ey?" Pulling back her curly red-brown hair, she continued. "Thanks for saving me."
"I personally didn't. It was the soldiers of the king who did and brought you here." The man pulled out a notebook and asked, "So, what's your name?"
"I go by Jewel. And I'd like to ask a question: where is 'ere?"
"Steamtopia."
"The infamous city, known for their advanced technological breakthroughs."
The man in the coat ran a hand through his short blonde hair, saying, "You must be well-learned to speak such. Not just a simple warrior, are you... People call me Dom (NO IT IS NOT DOMRAO SHUSH), and I'm the Head Doctor of Steamtopia."
Jewel pushed a stray bit of hair out of her face, smiling. "I'm not just a warrior, no sir." As she went to push herself up on her hands, she noticed something was off about one of her legs...
Seeing the expression on Jewel's face change, Dom said kindly, "When I took you in, your... right leg had been severed from your body... You were bleeding out, and... I had the most skilled of our engineers craft you the finest robotic leg we ever have."
Jewel slowly lowered herself back down, resting her mass of curls against the pillow. "I know this is a lot to take in, Miss Jewel, and I am sorry that this had to happen to you-"
"Don't be," she said, cutting him off. "Battle scars 're well-earned reminders of our past and you 'ave no need to be sorry for somethin' you didn't cause." Jewel smiled up at the doctor, see his face redden.
A few moments later, the door to the room creaked, the sound of little footsteps tiptoeing away loudly echoing into the room. "Falsie," Dom called out to his niece. The footsteps halted and a head of shining blonde hair peeked into the room.
"Hi Uncle," False said quietly.
"What are you doing in the hospital? Shouldn't you be studying?"
False stepped further into the room, the little goggles on her head shining in the dim lighting. "Tommy (AND NO IT'S ALSO NOT TOMMYINNIT) broke his ankle again today, and I wanted to see him." She fiddled with her brown gloves, glancing curiously at Jewel.
Turning back to the red headed warrior, Dom said, "Please excuse me while I go check up on Tommy." And he swiftly left the room.
False debated leaving. After all, being a young girl in the presence of a warrior woman was a little intimidating.
That was, until Jewel said three words, her heavy Scottish accent reaching False's ears: "Come here, lass." Jewel sat up and tapped the bed next to her.
False tread lightly to the side of the hospital bed, struggling to climb up and sit next to Jewel. Jewel noticed and stretched out a hand to help the little girl up.
Once False was settled, Jewel started a conversation. "So, your name is False?"
False nodded.
"My name's Jewel." She smiled gently at the little girl.
