I looked around me in confusion. We entered the magical world that the Prince inhabited through a meadow? Not a place that screamed of magic with tons of happy animals prancing around and flowers that giggled and made the place smell like the inside of a rainbow, but a simple  meadow with grass and a pond and a single tree. But the pond seemed to be twisting slightly, and it was almost transparent in places. I bent down to take a closer look and I could suddenly see through it, and the fabric of time started to look like my old ballet slippers, well used and full of holes. I was startled out of my daze when Mytho put his hand on my shoulder. "Duck," he said as though it was normal for a portal to another world to be in a pond "this is where we enter," Then Mytho suddenly broke his character and I felt myself tumbling down through the water.

The water felt like honey on my skin and it stuck to me, holding me to the only world I remembered and I let it. The only thing in that land, the world of the book was Mytho and his family, and all the people who had been in our story once upon a time. In my mind I had never been there, my first memory was of speaking to Pique, and Lilie, and of Mr. Cat's studio, and all the things that no longer existed. They were all my past and as sad as it was to even think the words Fakir was too. He was dead, our story was finite, and maybe my story now lay to Mytho, who I could see at the edge of the portal stretching out a hand for me.If I had the ability to resolve his son's story, then what if, what if, I would be free! To finish my own story to go on to whatever existed afterwards for a Duck, and I could finally, finally hold Fakir in my arms and not just lay in his as he cried about how our story would never be happy. Then my hesitance dissipated and Mytho's hand suddenly looked like salvation and I grabbed it, knowing it led to a new world and an ending that didn't leave me just a stolid little duck waiting for something to hold on to.
