The blazing sun shone brightly on the city of Montreal. It is the month of August, there's no better time to be in Montreal than summer. Visiting the amusement park, the botanical garden, the museums, or just take a stroll around the city, looking at buildings, trying iconic foods.
In a little house in the remote part of the city, a girl woke up to the blazing sun. Her name is Fern.
She got up to a yawn before petting her pet hamster, Coco.
" Good morning Coco, did you sleep well? I certainly did, " Fern said to her little hamster.
She got up and stretched before going to the bathroom to shower. The cold water woke her up from her daze. She got dressed afterward. She put on her black shirt and black leggings. She tied her hair up and put her sneakers on. She tidied up her mini backpack and headed out with a piece of toast in her mouth.
Fern got on her bike and headed to Cafe Olimpico.
" Hey guys, " Fern said, greeting her friends.
" Hey Fern! " They cheered.
Fern directly took her apron off the counter and began working. Fern works at cafe Olimpico as a barista to supply her living. She lives with her hamster in a little house in Montreal. She works every day for food, to pay the bills, a bit of fun, and other daily needs.
That scorching hot day was a great day for Fern. Inside the cafe is very chilly. You can barely feel the sun from inside. She spent her day making light meals and beverages for the customers.
Her shift ended at 8.00 pm. It was the end of the month, and she was going to get her paycheck. All the employees gathered in the staff room. Ms. Candace, the cafe's manager, stood up and gave each of the employees an envelope.
" Thanks, Ms. Candace, " Fern said.
" Nicholas, are we going home together again? " Fern asked.
Nicholas is one of Fern's closest friends in the cafe. They have been friends since high school. They actually applied to the cafe together. Almost every day they go home together. And Fern has feelings for Nicholas. She wanted them to be more than friends, more than best friends.
" Yeah sure, wait a moment, let me go grab my jacket, " Nicholas said.
Fern nodded and waited in the bike parking.
" Hey, I'm back, let's go, " Nicholas said.
" I need to go to the bank first, so just leave me there later, " Fern said.
Nicholas nodded.
They got on their bikes before beginning to ride to the bank.
" Bye Nicholas, " Fern said. She waved.
" Bye Fern! See you tomorrow! " He replied.
After the bank, Fern rode her bike back home. Just as she parked the bike and walked to her front porch, her steps were stopped. Something eye-catching was seen in her doormat.
A big basket. A cute brown basket with a baby pink silk blanket as the base. A white teddy bear is sticking out from it. A bouquet of roses and a lot of sweets filled up the basket.
Fern leaned closer to the basket and saw the card attached to it. It said.
Hope you like today's basket,
lots of love,
Andre
That basket turned Fern's mood 180°. Her fist clenched.
