I took my time getting ready and had settled on a simple cropped tee and jeans, but Caroline pushed her way into my room with arms full of clothes after Tyler tipped her off about my one duffel bag of belongings and insisted I change.
"Come on, Kira. Tyler said this is your first part ever! You're way too hot to not have everyone's attention tonight," she pleaded.
I took a deep breath. I said I wanted to find out who I was, right? That wouldn't happen if I stayed in my comfort zone. I hoped I wouldn't regret it. "You're right, Care. Doll me up," I shrugged, surrendering myself to the bubbly but insanely strong blonde.
"Great!" she squealed in excitement with a smile that made me rethink my words. Maybe giving her full control wasn't the best idea. "First, let's start with your hair. Your curls are gorgeous! Don't keep them tied up in that adorable - but not hot - bun." She tugged the tie from my hair and I shook it out, tucking one side behind my ear. "See? Now that's hot."
She moved on, still smiling as she sifted through the thirty-some outfits on my bed. "I have the perfect thing," she said excitedly. I muffled a groan as her grin grew wider. She held up a white two-piece bodycon suit with a cropped spaghetti strap tank and high-waisted skirt that drifted mid-thigh once I slipped it on.
"Tyler's gonna have his hands full with the boys tonight," she said wriggling her eyebrows, like that was her intent. "You're kinda...short - no offense - so let's go with these heels," she said, picking up a pair of nude red bottom high heels from the foot of my bed and sat them in front of my feet. "Don't worry, one of my best friends is tiny like you, Bonnie; you'll meet her later."
"Gee, thanks," I muttered to myself, slipping the shoes on. I stepped into the closet and looked myself over in the floor length mirror. "I gotta hand it to you, Care. You do good work."
"Well, I had the perfect model. You made it easy," she said, giving me a quick hug before heading for the door. "Here," she picked my cell phone up off the bed and tapped her number into. "I'll text you in about ten minutes. That's when you make your entrance," she winked, handing me my phone and stepping from my room.
I chuckled and shook my head. Life in Mystic Falls was definitely going to be different. I check the time and sat on my bed, counting down the minutes as I swiped through social media on my phone.
After three minutes, I grew bored and walked over to the window. There wasn't an ocean view or anything, but the forest behind Tyler's out - our house - was beautiful with the golden glow of the full moon beaming down on it. I pressed my hand to the glass, in full awe, when I heard my room door open.
"You're out of control!" a voice hissed. I turned to see two guys glaring at each other in the middle of my room. The voice had come from the older one with black hair.
"Damon, I'm fine," the other guy seethed. He looked a bit younger with lighter hair.
I cleared my throat with a small amused smile playing on my lips. They both snapped their eyes to me at the same time in shock.
I slowly stepped towards the duo, who weren't shy about letting their eyes roam over my body before meeting my eyes again. "You must be friends of Tyler's," I held out a hand toward the younger one first. I noticed his eyes were green. "I'm Kira Fitzgerald, Tyler's cousin."
He took my hand and gave a light shake, but didn't respond. I chuckled awkwardly and pulled my hand from his. Before I could offer it, the other one grabbed my hand in his and smirked, his electric blue eyes twinkling as my attention turned to him.
"Damon Salvatore. This sad sap is my little brother Stefan. I didn't know Wolfy had a cousin," he said, still holding onto my hand. "Definitely not a hot cousin," he muttered.
"Wolfy?" I laughed at the nickname he had for Tyler.
He opened his mind to say something, but my phone buzzed, interrupting whatever he was about to say.
"I should get that," I said, gesturing to the hand he was still holding. "Feel free to let yourselves out of my room anytime," I said with a wink before I stepped back to the nightstand beside my bed and snatched up my phone. It was a text from Caroline telling me it was time to make my debut. I looked back up to where the brothers were standing, but they'd already left. Weird. I didn't even hear my door open again.
I shrugged and flipped my curls back over my shoulder, giving my self one last once over in the vanity mirror before I walked to my room door. Just relax. Tyler's here, nothing bad will happen. Besides, it's Mystic Falls - a town so small it's hardly on the map. What's the worst that can happen? I thought to myself. Taking a deep breath, I straightened my shoulders and stepped out.
