'You don't know what stride is!?' exclaimed Eloise. The Santos boys continued to look at Highcrest dumbfounded. Aster was the only one that wasn't fazed. She then ignored them and asked Mr Fontana where the change rooms and headed towards that direction. After around 5 minutes she came out in a stylish but cool sport out fit. She looked very fit with just the faint notion of abbs apparent on her body. She wore teal shorts with black tights, a black tank top and black crop shirt on top. She had black and purple sneakers on too. Estavan caught sight of her and blushed, as well as Harvey and the rest of the Highcrest juniors except for Ian, who was too busy worrying about Friday.
The rest of Marble High realised that it was practice time so they got dressed too. Estavan was the first to come out and sat next to Aster in the gym. Aster then put her head on Estavan's shoulder and yawned. She gave him a sleepy smile and he gave her a nuzzle. They both looked like they were dating so Friday asked ...
'Are you two dating? You look good together.'
Aster and Estavan looked at each other then looked away blushing. Estavan said 'We are best friends but we do platonic actions with each other.' He then looked down smiling sadly. It was obvious that he wanted to be more than best friends. Then Aster cleared her throat, breaking the akward tension. The rest of Marble High was ready, awaiting her orders. She stood up and offered her hand to Estavan who happily accepted. The both made their way to their time and started stretching. Abtomey still curious about what stride is, so he asked Mr Fontana.
'Stride is a futuristic sport that combines parkour and relay racing. The relationer is the person who doesn't run but instead tell the runners when they should go. The first is the starter, who obviously starts the race. They then 'connect' with the second, the second then does the same with the third. The fourth and last runner is called the anchor. They end the race. Connecting is sort of like high fiving the next runner. The distances vary because it doesn't happen on a track, it happens in cities or towns. Bike racks, fire hydrants and other normal day obejects are the obstacles. Highcrest doesn't want to be a part of this but rest assured I will convince the headmaster.'
The Marble High students nodded and smiled at him. They had made a makeshift obsyacle course around the gym and oval, obviously it was small compared to the real thing but they had to make do with what they had. Then they got into their respective positions. Eloise had a tablet but she was allowed because she was a guest. She sat at the top of the railing near the oval. Pablo was the starter, next was Diego then Estavan. That meant that Aster was the anchor. After they were ready Eloise counted.
'1..2..3..Go!'
Then Pablo ran full speed around the gym passing all the obstacles. He tripped a few times but never fell. He then took a lap around the oval, going faster than he was before. Diego was at the starting line waiting for his brother. Once Pablo made his way to Diego, Eloise counted again.
'1...2...3...Go!'
Then Pablo started running. The brothers clapped hands and Pablo stopped, out of breath. There was a red line where they connected. So that must be part of it. Pablo did the same as his brother, then it was Estavan's turn. He was quick and tripped only once. He took a shorter time than the twins, so it was Aster's turn. She got into position and waited for him. Eloise hadn't even shouted anything, when she started running. She then connected with Estavan who came out of no where and flew through the course with agility, grace and ease. She hadn't missed a single obstacle and was going quicker and quicker. She then made it to the red line and skidded to a halt. Twisting her body and ran her left hand slowly through her hair with a proud smile. She wasn't even out of breath. She then smiled and asked Eloise.
The Highcrest students were amazed of how agile and coordinated the Marble High students were. Friday was amazed at how Aster ran. She glided like a swan but was as fast as a cheetah. Her ending was spectacular. Friday knew that she always did that when ever she ran a race. So it wasn't as if Aster was showing off.
'So, how was the time?'
''8 minutes and 45.8 seconds"
The Marble High students were okay with it but not over joyed. Aster then made her way to Mr Fontana and bowed to him and said thank you. She then left to sit next to Friday. Then what she did next shocked everyone. She hugged Friday. Then Friday hugged her back. They both looked happy being embraced by one another. Friday looked relaxed for the first time.
