Chapter 3

Ben POV

Erica was stuck in the hospital. I was taken to the CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. I was debriefed about the situation. Turns out Erica wasn't lying. I was broken. Why did I not believe her. If I did this would never happen. I was in charge of a "Elite Mission" I didn't know what to do. The mission was due to start in a few months. Every day went by a day closer to the mission. I didn't know what to do. 

"Hey," Zoe said to me at lunch.

"Hey." I replied groggily. 

"Follow me." Zoe told me.

"Okay," I got up and stood up and followed Zoe. I was now taller then her by a foot. I was tall muscular, and cuter (I think. People told me that). Zoe lead me through the campus and into the hospital. 

I could see the construction of the new buildings for the dorms and the new administrative building. I could hear the drilling and the hammers of the renovations. Wow, I thought, the CIA must have gotten more money. 

Zoe and I stopped at the door. The doors slid open. Wow, automatic doors! What a change! Zoe stopped by the receptionist desk and said, "Here for to see out patient H.E."

Who is H.E. I thought. I followed Zoe to the nice new elevator. She pressed level 7 and the elevator shot up. A few seconds later we were at Level 7. The doors won't open. 

"Why isn't the doors opening? Zoe." I said confused.

"I need to put in my ID card. There. And scan my eye. Okay good. Lets go" she explained.

The doors opened and I followed her inside. There were two guards flanked on a door. They saluted to. Me? Why me? And opened the door. I saw Erica laying in the bed unconscious with 24/7 doctors monitoring her. 

I said, "What is her condition?"

"We don't know yet. We are trying to neutralize the sedition. We are close but no not all the way. Sir" one of them replied.

Why am I called sir? I thought. I looked at Erica. Her eyes were closed but as always she looked as beautiful as ever. Suddenly one of the doctors hit the doctor that talked to us on the back of his head knocking him out. The nurse grabbed a scalpel and  wielded it like a weapon towards us. Zoe and I kicked into action. Suddenly the nurse stabbed me in the stomach. Ouch. The doctor pulled out a gun and shot it at the wall right next to Zoe's head. Then the nurse put her weapon against Erica's throat. 

She yelled, "Stop fighting both of you."

I immediately put my hands in the air. So did Zoe. Then in a flash the doctor shot me in the chest. I gasped in pain. And fell down. I heard Zoe yell, "No!" And the guards in the front come in and shot both the nurse and the doctor. I couldn't talk. I couldn't breathe. Doctors rushed in the room and pushed me on the stretcher. And then black.

Zoe POV

I saw Ben fall down and I yelled NO! The guards in the front ran in and shot down the doctor and the nurse. One ran to Ben and I and one ran to the nurse and the doctors. I stood up and pressed the red button besides the bed Erica was laying.

Doctors rushed inside and once they saw Ben and the doctor that got whacked. They rushed over.

"Get two stretchers over here! He is losing blood fast! I see one bullet hole and a stab most likely from the scalpel the nurse was holding." one of the doctors examining Ben yelled. 

Ten nurses ran in rolling two stretchers and hoisted Ben onto one of them. I heard a faint. "Zoe, what just happened. Is that Ben?" 

I spun around and saw Erica with her eyes barely opened. "Yeah that was Ben." I emphasized Ben to send the message. 

"Why?" she whispered.

"Because of YOU. HE GOT SHOT because he was trying to keep YOU alive. HE GOT STABBED because of YOU." I yelled.

"what..." she whispered. Tears getting ready to fall down from her eyes.

"I'm leaving to go check on Ben." I pronounced and walked out the door.

Erica POV

I opened my eyes. Light filled my eyes. I looked around and saw Ben on the floor. Blood gushing out of his chest and stomach. My face went pale. Doctors ran inside and carried Ben onto a stretchers. I saw Zoe staring also pale face at Ben's body. 

I said, "Zoe, what just happened. Is that Ben?" but it only came as a whisper.

Zoe wheeled around and saw me. 

She replied, "Yeah that was Ben."  she emphasized Ben like it was my fault.

"Why?" I whispered.

"Because of YOU. HE GOT SHOT because he was trying to keep YOU alive. HE GOT STABBED because of YOU." she yelled.

What? Why, no. I wanted to say a million things but all that came out was, "what..." I felt my eyes water. 

"I'm leaving to go check on Ben." she pronounced as she walked out the door. 

I started to cry. Why am I crying though? Why? After a twenty minutes later. Doctors came to check on me. They saw me awake and yelped with joy. I wasn't in the mood for that. "You will be realized in three days. Get ready!" one of the doctors said. And walked out. I started to think. Why. How could this have happened. I suddenly remembered I felt a cold sharp blade on my neck. And someone saying, "Stop fighting both of you." I connected the pieces. The person was talking to Ben and Zoe fighting her and someone else. And then I remembered I heard a gunshot with a cry of pain. Ben. Then everything went in a blur.
