The New Beginning - The Story of Ross and Rachel

The One Where Rachel Wants To Quit

It's no longer a secret how sweet Ross can be. How he chose to took care of Rachel when she broke her ribs instead of being interviewed by the Discovery Channel, how he was so sure she's going to be a great mom even when she doubted herself, how he put Rachel first during the time she was pregnant with Emma, and any other kindness and selfless gestures he had shown for the past ten years. There is no doubt that this time Ross will do everything he could to help Rachel during this pregnancy.

After spending a few days in the hospital, Rachel was finally discharged. She was so relieved to finally come back home and finally get to see her daughter, Emma, for the first time in a few days. Rachel's mom, Sandra stayed at their place and helped out Ross took care of Emma during the time Rachel was hospitalized. As soon as Rachel entered the house, Emma ran towards her. She bent over and hugged her daughter lovingly.

"Mommy I miss you.." Emma said.

Their two and a half years old daughter has been looking for her mom for the past few days.

Rachel tried to hide her tears as she looked her daughter in the eyes.

"Hi honey.. Mommy miss you too. Thank you for being such a good girl and listened to daddy and grandma. I love you honey." She said as she kissed her

Sandra walked over and gave her daughter a hug.

"I'm glad you're fine, dear. Maybe it's time for you to get Emma a full-time nanny. My friend recommended me this nanny they've been using for years. Here's the number"

She handed Rachel a card.

"I think we don't need one yet, but thank you. And also.. Thank you for taking care of Emma."

"Okay, then I better get going. See you later Emma."

Sandra hugged Emma and kissed her goodbye.

"And Ross, please take care of Rachel." Sandra smiled at him.

Ross simply nodded.

"Bye mom, thanks a lot"

Rachel hugged her mom and then walked her mom to the door.

After Sandra left, Ross helped Rachel change and put her in the bed. He sat down next to her and stroked her hair gently.

"Okay Rach, you should rest. I'll cook dinner and give Emma a bath. Call me if you need anything."

"Thank you."

She leaned towards him, gave him a big smile as she looked into his eyes and then she kissed him.

Shortly after Ross left the room, she fell a sleep, and by the time she woke up it was already midnight and Ross was sleeping beside her. She turned her body around and watched him sleeping. His hair was messy, he clearly exhausted. She brushed his hair from his face slowly, but then it woke him up.

"I'm sorry, Did I wake you up?" She asked, feeling guilty.

"It's okay. Aren't you hungry? I'll reheat the dinner. I didn't wake you up because you were sleeping soundly." He smiled

"I am hungry. But you should go back to sleep, I can do that alone."

He stood up, offered her his arm and helped her get out from the bed.

"I insist" he smiled

They walked over the kitchen and Ross grabbed the food from their fridge. Rachel sat down at the countertop while waiting her dinner. After he put the food inside the oven, he walked closer toward her and their eyes leveled. She smiled and stroke his hair gently.

"Thank you for everything" she said

He brushed her hair off her face and said, "No, thank you for being so strong."

They were kissing when their kiss interrupted by the oven timer.

"Okay now let's get you two something to eat." He said as he gently rubbed her belly.

He then helped her get down and prepared her the dinner. While she was eating, she noticed Ross was dozing off as his head almost fall into the table. Rachel then patted his shoulder lightly.

"Ross.. you should sleep inside. You look awful. I'll be fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'll sleep right after I finish this."

"Okay, good night."

"Night"

He kissed her good night and went to bed.

Later that night

It's 3 AM in New York. Ross slightly opened his eyes to check on her wife, but she wasn't there. He got up from the bed while rubbing his eyes. As soon as he opened the door he saw Rachel sat down in the couch alone with no lights on. He knew something must've bothered her. He turned on a small lamp near the couch, sat next to her, and wrapped her around his arms. He slightly gave her a rub in her shoulder tried to make her feel better. They stayed silent for a few minutes until Rachel finally broke the silence.

She looked him in they eyes as he called his name.

"Ross.."

"Yes?"

As they eyes met, he could see her eyes puffed, he immediately knew she was crying before he came in.

"Should I quit my job?"

For a brief moment he wasn't sure what she was up to, and then it hit him. She must've felt guilty because of what happened a few days ago. He put her head to rest in his chest and gently stroked her hair.

"Do you hate your job?" He asked

There were silence for a few second, then she replied

"No, Ross, I love it."

"Then don't quit."

"B-but"

Before she can finish her words Ross cut her off.

"Look, I knew you love your job. I knew it make you happy. Therefore you should not quit."

"But what if I fainted again? What if I get exhausted and hurt the baby?"

Tears started to flow from her eyes. He tried soothes her and wiped her tears.

"Look, I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere. I will drop you off to the office and pick you up everyday. I'm gonna take care of Emma and the house. All you need to do is go to work and rest as soon as you come back home. I'll be in your constant beck and call 24/7. If you need me anytime anywhere I will drop everything and come over. How's that sound?"

This kind of gesture that he shows gets her every time. He is this selfless man who desperately in love with her. Every time, she fell in love with him all over again.

She thanked him and hugged him tightly.

"Are you sure? You'll be exhausted." she slightly laughed.

"You sacrificed a lot while carrying our baby. This is the least I can do for us. I wish I was a seahorse." He smiled

"Oh, don't. Then you will be far far away in the ocean. I want you here."

She smiled and they cuddled for a few minutes before they went to sleep.
