Ema (third) p.o.v
What she did wasn't wrong, was it? She didn't know anymore. One moment she had great friends, a new family and July, but that came all crashing down when Yuri and Lily came back. She just wanted to finally live, forget about the past and move on.
So she was a bit different from usual, all right. She understood that. So she was a bit more rude to Yuri, she knew that, but that didn't explain why she suddenly had Yuri ganging up on her.
Yes, he was also adopted, but he knew the reason why he was taken away while she never met her parents, so she didn't know if she was giving up on, taken away from them or just tossed aside like she was nothing.
Maybe she went a bit too far when she slapped Yuri and then all said those things. But she said them in the heat of the moment, she really didn't mean it. Well, a part of it. Because, he did leave, he did leave her behind in the house where his brother committed suicide. Just like her fathe-could she call him father- did when he went and travelled the world.
She thought that after what happened with Yuri's brother, they would stick to each other like glue, he would need her to rely on and they could be a real family. And for a time they were! They laughed together, cried together, went to class together, would have sleepovers, shared Ema's birthday, baked and watched July's and Lily's weird antics.
He was her little brother, so she was a bit hurt (jealous) when she came back from her nap (they stayed up much too late into the night), and saw him dancing, albeit clumsily actually very graceful and confident. Like he transformed from a shy, little, girly brother into a confident young boy that was dancing to his heart's content.
She was confused for a while after she witnessed him dancing. She ment, wasn't dancing that girls did?
Every time she watched tv with Yuri and saw a dancing performance, most of the time it were woman, and the few times she saw men, was with more 'manly' moves before she clicked it away so it didn't give Yuri any ideas (to leave her). Nothing like what she what Yuri did.
But every time she looked away from him, she saw him trying different styles of dancing. He sneaked out the moment she drifted away into sleeping, he was dancing the moment he finished his chores as fast as he could, when he came back from school, or when he had a particular bad day of memories or nightmares. Lily, more often than not, began to accompany him. Sitting on his shoulder or on top of his head as he went wild.
She didn't know where it exactly went wrong from there. Sure, she was a little cranky that he spent less and less time with her as time went on. That didn't mean she was jealous or trying so hard to avert his attention to her. To have a glimpse of his beautiful purple eyes that were solely on her.
July was a godsend as she cried many hours of the loneliness creeping around the corner. He and Lily started to clash and clash more often, Lily loved playing pranks, loved to make jokes and embarrass Yuri while July liked to chill and just have fun and laugh at fond memories or funny things that happened accidentally. He also worried a lot, something that Lily did not and that was number one argument they were always having.
While Lily wanted to have fun with Yuri, she loved to watch him dance, and would protect him with her life, July was in general a bit more subdued and would worry a lot more.
They got a huge fight over it, Lily wanted Yuri to go to dance classes as the latter was getting more advanced each day passed, while July was worried for Yuri, but also that he secretly would forget about them.
In the end Lily won, and she can never forget Yuri's face after he came back from his first lesson. She had never seen him so happy. He was practically shining and the whole day he was skipping. While she...while she was left standing there, watching silently as he left her in the dust.
She decided, and tried, to suck up her feelings and tried to bond with him again. But it was different from when they were younger. She was slowly, but surely growing into a young girl-woman, while Yuri stayed thin, small, but slightly lean body from all the lessons and ballet.
He grew his hair out, resembling more a small girl the more she looked. The following days she had traitorous thoughts in the back of her mind. But no matter how hard she tried to keep them off bay, each time they came back, and were more insistent each time.
So one day she acted onto those thoughts. They made a bet over something insignificant and when Yuri lost, she had bought Yuri a tutu. Maybe she could work with that was the only thought she had as he was very embarrassed, but allowed Ema to take pictures of him.
They slowly started to reconnect again. Ema brought Yuri to dance classes, and watched for a few minutes before sitting in school doing her homework, they did sleepovers again, she braided Yuri's hair, and in return Yuri talked to her more, tried to include July while dancing and was more social when doing he-his chores.
As long as she ignored the fact that he was a boy, she could handle this. They would make it work out and everything would turn out all right. Oh, how wrong she was.
Not even a year later he got recommended for a scholarship in America, at the age of thirteen. A prodigy they called him. Someone who will go far in life. Whispered someone else, gushing over how he gracefully danced and performed.
She...She was...hurt (jealous). Surely Yuri wouldn't leave her, right? They would stick together, because that's what family does. But Yuri didn't.
He was ecstatic. He could meet new friends, explore the world instead of staying in the apartment and going to school. He was young and he knew that, but this was an one in a life time chance, he explained as he was jumping around Ema, hugging her and vibrating in his chair and bed.
Her father was also enthusiastic about it and congratulated Yuri exuberant. So the next day, he packed his bags, hugged Ema tightly, gave July a nut and promised her to text and call her as often as possible, and gave her a huge thousand watt smile as he waved and turned around, Lily laying snugly in his arms, leaving with his coach.

That's why she was so adamant on the thought of people leaving her. He left her, left her behind, and probably just texted her out of politeness.
So she decided to talk to Yuri about it. Surely he would understand, right? Surely he would apologize, and she would forgive him. They would talk it out and then he would understand that she also just wanted a family, and maybe, if he gave her time, she could think of them as a family again without the feeling of hurt and loneliness behind her.
That she also wanted to talk to the brothers, that she wanted to have fun again and not wanting to relive every last months, even years how they spend their time with each other before he left to America, and in return leaving her behind.
Instead, he practically said, that if she didn't own up to her own mistakes, he would walk out of her life, again. And she wanted to boil over when he said that. He was acting like he was the victim and she was the only one in the wrong.
But she didn't even do anything wrong! She had valid reasons and maybe it was also a little karma for how he had treated her.
But the more he continued on, the more confused she got. Because what did she even wrong, if she did something wrong that is? She didn't do anything wrong...right? All she wanted to do was to give him a little karma of the feeling of family taking away from him, as he did the same, but instead she apparently had messed up.
But how was she going to apologize, for real according to Yuri, if she didn't know what she did wrong?
But...she was starting to get it. At least, she thinks so. She was also wrong, she didn't know why, yet, but she would figure it out.

She would...figure it out.

So she accepted.

She throws one last look behind her before shutting the lights out and starts making her way downstairs, and stops just before the last stair step and watches silently Yuri bustling around the table, helping Masaomi and Ukyo with the food as the boy he brought with him is wrestling with Lily about something trivial.
