"Today's my birthday.. near as I can tell at least" Luke piped into our comfortable silence around the fire."Oh shit, happy birthday Luke" I said, almost forgot about his birthday was around this time.
"Happy birthday" Clem says as she now lays awake while her head lays on troys lap "so, that makes you what? 27?" Bonnie asked.
"That's right.. surprised you remember" Luke says with a smile "sure as hell feel a lot older" Luke comments.
"Don't even start with that shit" Kenny joked with AJ sleeping in his arm, Luke chuckled at him "got outta of college five years ago... feels like a million years" Luke says sadly.
"What did you study?" Clem asked which lighten Luke up "majored in art history" Luke says somewhat proudly.
"That's cool" Clem says and I chuckled at her awkwardness in her voice.
"Sounds like you majored in working in a coffee shop" Kenny piped in with a grin and I chuckled "he actually did work in a coffee shop" I said with a smile.
"Oh yeah, it wasn't easy but it was good" Luke says and I laughed "your coffee or the skill? Because you sure as hell didn't have both" I joked.
They laughed and Luke rolled his eyes at me "and I still had the job for some reason" Luke says, We laughed some more, enjoying our jokes and wits in this situation.
"Oh! I almost forgot" Bonnie says and dug into her backpack and pulled out a bottle of Rum.
"Was saving this for a special occasion and... well, it being your birthday and all... figure, this is a good a time then any" Bonnie and hands the alcohol to Luke.
For once, I'm not enthusiastic about alcohol anymore and I'm glad that I'm not.
"Where did you get it?" Clem asked as she now lifted herself up from the ground and lean on Troy's arm who looked like he didn't mind.
"Bill kept all the alcohol in the armory, he didn't like people drinking" Troy answered her and Clem hummed in acknowledgement.
"Can I have some?" Clem asked "no" Kenny quickly said "why not? I had some before" Clem said, reminding me of the time we drank in the cellar.
"What? Who said you can have some?" Kenny demanded, Clem looked at me and I froze, mentally panicking.
"Nick? Nick gave you some?" Kenny asked angrily "I... ahem.. I offered some when I was a bit.. drunk on.." I struggle to make a sentence that wouldn't make it sound like I'm irresponsible adult.
"Whiskey" Clem finished my sentence without hesitation "but I only had a sip and it was for Pete" she said and I sadly smile at the name of my uncle.
"Pete?" Kenny asked "who's Pete?"
"Pete was my uncle, he died over a week ago from a walker" I informed Kenny and the rest that didn't know about Pete.
"Well.. I am sorry for your loss and it did seem.. appropriate.. to drink for someone who was dear to you" Kenny mustered to say with a bit of sincere in his voice.
"He was a good man" Clem said with a smile which made me smile.
"Fine then darling, you can have a some but just a sip" Kenny defeatedly said with a small grin "but first, we'll have the birthday boy make a toast" Kenny said with a wide smile.
