BABIES AND KIDS weren't her forte

BABIES AND KIDS weren't her forte. She loathed them, back when she was in high-school, and they certainly weren't in the perfect life she dreamed of every night before going to sleep.

She wasn't ready, she'd never be, to raise a real human being, with a brain, a heart and lungs. A real living being who breathed, ate, talked and walked. That very thought scared the hell put of her.

Which is why she found herself sobbing and crying her eyes out against the bathroom wall, her hands trembling while holding that damned stick.

She looked back at it, as if it was a monster. A rush of fear and anxiety came over her as she saw again the terrifying symbol that read positive. She threw the stick against the wall.

Her fiancé will be home soon and she couldn't keep her pregnancy a secret, but she will. He was smart, he knew better than to leave her because a human was growing in her stomach, but you never know. If it had been a shock to her, she couldn't imagine how much the news will affect him.

Jade wiped her eyes furiously and got up to grab the pregnancy test. She slipped it into her sweatpants' pocket and sighed. She wasn't going to tell him that night, it wasn't the moment.

She exited the bathroom and went into the kitchen to grab a Granny Smith apple, then laid down onto the jet black couch and fisted her hands, fingernails digging into palms, to reflect about what she had just found out.

The test said she was pregnant, so she had a baby inside her stomach. She probably got pregnant when she and Beck had sex to celebrate the release of the Jade's first film because, as she remembered, they hadn't been very. . . cautious.

It was seven, so Beck would be home soon. When Jade heard a knock on the door and a jiggle of keys, well, she completely freaked out. She got up from the couch and straightened the folds of her oversized t-shirt.

"Hey, honey." he said as he opened the door, a goofy grin on his face.

"Uh. . . hey, babe." Jade stuttered. "How was work?"

She put on her best fake smile and went to close the door for him. She wasn't acting suspicious at all, was she?

"Good. And boring. As usual, by the way." He rolled his eyes and pecked his fiancé on the cheek.

"Ha-ha." Jade faked a laugh. She was trying to act as casual as possible, but she knew that Beck would never believe her.

In fact, he raised and eyebrow and walked closer to her, their lips almost touching because he was aware that she couldn't resist him, especially when he was this close.

"What's going on?" he gently whispered and she shivered.

It was just cold, she decided. Beck didn't have this effect on her, she was strong, she could keep her pregnancy a secret, at least for a few weeks. She had to find the perfect moment to tell him, and that moment wasn't now.

"N-Nothing." There she was. She stuttered again. It wasn't her fault though.

"Did you. . . cheat on me?" His eyes dulled and Jade realized that she was hurting him by not telling him anything.

"No! How—Where did you get that?"

"It's. . . you're acting suspicious. . . and I thought—"

Jade cut him off by pressing her lips against his. "Babe, remember that I love you so freaking much." she said when she pulled back.

He frowned. There was something un her tone which made him even worried, so he jerked close and slid an arm around her waist. "But?"

"But I'm pregnant." she threw the words out as if it was nothing, but as she watched Beck's reaction, she understood they it was something.

"W-What? Are you sure?" Beck sat down onto the couch and put his head in his hands. "Am—Am I the father?"

Jade froze. Did he really think that she was having an affair with some random guy? "What? Of course you are!"

"So you're pregnant with my baby?" he questioned, to make sure.

"Yes!" she exclaimed, confused and exhausted. "So? What do you say? Are you surprised?"

He got up from his sit and walked over to her, in the same position as they were minutes before. "I'm not." he chucked. "I almost predicted it. But I'm happy, Jade, I love you."

"I love you too." she smiled softly and kissed him, then, when they broke off the kiss, she whispered "If the baby's a girl we'll call her Ava."

"Alright." he laughed and kissed her once again, because he honestly couldn't be any happier.
