"Hmm... wow, this place sure didn't change much."
The lone girl flung a packet into the closest bin some stories down, chuckling to herself as sirens pierced the air.
"How long has it been? Two years?"
From the top of a building, she watched as police cars zoomed around, searching frantically for someone. She looked away, gazing into the darkness behind her.
"I know you are there, Somnus," she spoke. "What do you want?"
He did not respond immediately. Though he was hidden from sight, she knew he was staring at her.
"I don't need you to comment on my appearance, if that's what you want to say," she said. "But since you don't feel so talkative today, I will do the talking."
"I don't get why he had to arrange at such a place." The girl glanced at the height of the building disdainfully. "What's so good about standing and monologuing on top of a building?"
"Sounds like you are scared of heights," came a newcomer's voice.
"Oh? Looks like the devil has come," she spoke scornfully. "Took you long enough, old man."
The newcomer stepped out of the shadows, revealing himself as Reynard Stoic, the mayor of Vale. "It sounded as if you were talking to someone."
She laughed, grinning widely. "You know me. Being kept in near isolation these past two years is boring. I have to entertain myself somehow."
Reynard Stoic simply smiled. "I can't argue with that."
"Let's just get over with this," she said. "Seeing your face makes me sick."
"After all I've done to help you? You really do hurt my feelings," he responded in mock hurt.
"Hurry up," the girl spoke impatiently.
Reynard Stoic sighed and held out his hand. "So do we have a deal?"
She shook his hand, her face still twisted in disgust. "Yes."
He grinned. "Pleasure doing business with you, Nyx."
"I can't say the same for me," Nyx responded with an annoyed huff. "Now leave me alone."
"Will do." With that, he was gone.
"Well, so you haven't answered me, Somnus," she said once the mayor left. "What do you want?"
Somnus stepped out such that he was half hidden by shadows, the moonlight touching his black mask. "What are you going to do next?"
"Hmm..."
She took out a keychain, looking at the photo attached to it.
Ezekiel...
When she found out that Harbinger killed him, overwhelmed with too many uncomfortable emotions at once, the only thing she could do was to laugh hysterically.
I swear... I will avenge you.
Somnus was still waiting for her answer. Instead of laughing like she wanted to do, she gave him an empty smile instead, knowing what the future awaited.
"I'm going to visit an old friend."
