Today is going to be a good day, Kaleo told himself as he got out of bed. He was going to do absolutely nothing today but reading while listening to music, and it was going to be great.

He sat down and flipped open the book Julia's friend - he forgot her name, much to his embarrassment - recommended him. It was a book by a person from one of the old families of Vale, Ludwig Rosenberg, who also happened to be the founder of his high school. There were numerous rumours about him like the one about being friends with Alexander Dale, and scathing ones about his overall character.

Kaleo chose not to dig into such rumours. He wanted to learn, not judge. Judging people never ended well, especially for himself.

He started the music player on his phone and flipped the page. The first thing that caught his eye was the dedication page, which read, "To my one true love, Elly."

I'm pretty sure that's not the name of his wife...

Putting that aside, Kaleo started to read the actual contents of the book. It seemed like a typical love story, but he never read romance focused stories before, so it was interesting to him.

If he had to sum up the book, it was about how the main character fell in love with a normal girl, which was opposed to as he belonged to a prestigious family. At the last chapter, Kaleo was disappointed to find that they ultimately did not get together.

I thought romance novels are supposed to have a happy ending, he thought, sighing as he turned the page to the epilogue.

After reading the epilogue, he was left with a strange feeling.

The scene was described beautifully as a peaceful landscape with a setting sun. There were two, the main character and the people he loved, sitting next to each other after countless years apart.

For some reason, Kaleo could imagine their voices clearly as he read the next lines.

"You came back," he whispered, his voice raw with emotion, knowing what would come next. It was inevitable, yet...

"Of course," she responded gently. Despite everything, she smiled. "That's what I promised."

Kaleo frowned. For some reason, he found it oddly familiar. However, no matter how hard he racked his brain, nothing came to mind.

He gave no further thought to it as his phone rang abruptly, cutting off his music. "Hello?" he spoke, trying to hide his annoyance.

"This is Mrs Alvin," came the familiar voice of the landlady. She sounded strained. "We need to talk."

"N-now?" he spluttered.

"If possible."

"Okay," he agreed immediately. He could never ignore the distress in someone's voice.

He went to her home as fast as he could manage, sensing the seriousness of whatever happened that got her to call at eleven in the morning.

"Thank you for coming," Mrs Alvin spoke, notably more warmly than when they first met.

"What's wrong?" Kaleo asked. "You sounded... distressed. Is it about Lysa?"

"Take a seat," she said, disappearing into the kitchen.

Once she returned with cups of tea, they settled down. He watched her curiously as he took an awkward sip.

"I ran into Lysa this morning," Mrs Alvin spoke quietly. "She... looked better, but... I think she should seek professional help."
