October, the only month people actually like me

October, the only month people actually like me. The only month I'm not labeled as 'bad luck'. It's the month where I'm everywhere, pictures, statues, toys, costumes, etc. It's the month where people see me and automatically think of witches. I don't hate it, I just wish people thought like that all year round. But then again, October is special.

I make my way to the back of the book store that my human owns. I see her hunched over the table writing In her book, she's always writing in there, even more so during this month. I walk up to her and rub in between her legs and purr.

"Not now Conner." She shoos me away with her foot. I jump onto the table and sit in front of her book. She's so concentrated on what she's writing, her eyebrows scrunched together and she pokes her tongue out of her mouth just the tiniest bit. I love watching her write. I love watching her.

We sit there for a couple of minutes of uninterrupted silence, then we hear the bell from the door ring. I jump off the table as my human sighs. I make my way to the counter before her.

"Oh hello there. What's your name?" A young girl asks.

"His name is Conner, and I'm Shelly, the owner. Welcome to Spellbook. Can I help you find anything?"

"My mother sent me to find a book. 'Moon Spells' by-"

"By Diane Ahliquist. I know it. Follow me." The girl follows her to get the book as I stay at the counter. I sit there licking my paws as they make their way back to the counter.

"She also wanted me to get stuff for a blessing potion."

"Ah, I take it you'll be the one making it?" My human asked. The girl nodded.

"A blessing potion is good for a first potion." She smiled and she gathered the ingredients. " My first time making a blessing potion didn't turn out like it should. Ended up making a curse potion. Measurements and the right ingredients are very important. And here you are, Lavender, sage, sea salt, and white rice. I added extra just in case." The girl thanked her and left. I looked over to Shelly and watched her lean on her elbows and watch the girl leave.

"What?" She asked.

"Nothing, just surprised you mentioned your first blessing potion is all." I said.

"And I'm surprised you didn't talk and scare the poor girl."

"Please, nobody has seen or heard a cat talk in centuries. She would have probably thought I was fake." I jumped off the counter and walked to the back room.  "I'm pretty sure you're the only witch with a talking cat." I say to Shelly as she follows behind me.

"Well aren't I special." She says sitting back down at the table.

"That you are, my dear. That you are."

October, the month where magic is at its most powerful. The month where witches and warlocks can be themselves. Where I'm not looked down upon. October is a very special month indeed.
