"Alrighty soldiers! You better be ready for this, because if you're not then you're gonna get seriously fucking injured."
After breakfast, Bernard chose superior elves, groups were sorted, and each of them were given sites to train at. The one that Bernard and Carbon would run was perhaps one of the most difficult. They liked to call it the buddy system. Set up in front of them were pairs upon pairs of 35 feet walls that were placed decently close to each other, and the motive of the exercise was to make it to the top of the wall and back using teamwork.
"The main objective of this exercise is getting to the top of the wall and back down again without killing yourself in pairs, using teamwork," Carbon explained, crossing her arms over her chest in an intimidating manner, "now, I can already see a few of you staring at me like I'm talkin' another language. It really isn't all that hard when you put your mind to it. Usually I'd watch you try to figure it out on your own first, but I'm gonna need all the intact elves I can get, so Bernard and I will give a demonstration."
That was his cue to join her by one of the wall pairs. He knew exactly how this one worked. In fact, it was one of his personal favorites. Once they were at a reasonable distance, Bernard and Carbon pushed their backs together and hooked their arms into one another's with their elbows locked together tightly. Then, they side stepped between the walls and placed a foot each against the surface, their combat boots gripping the steep material.
"Ready?" Carbon asked, the boy nodding.
"Ready."With a heave and a groan they managed to get both sets of feet off the ground, and little by little began creeping up the walls with well timed steps. Bernard could feel it intensely in his thighs while Carbon felt it more in her core. The sweat was really beginning to make it a little more difficult, but by the time it did they had made it to the top, and sat up there heaving heavy breaths.
Once she had caught her breath, Carbon cupped her hands around her mouth and looked down at all of the elves below herself and Bernard.
"Alrighty! Pair up! One Southern elf and one Northern Elf! No double ups unless we're out of options! Am I clear??" She shouted down, a muffled bunch of 'yes lieutenant' 's echoing all the way up to her as everyone began pairing up.
Once they had, Carbon turned to Bernard with curiosity in her eyes and leaned on her own arm.
"So, Bernard. Tell me a bit about the elves that you've selected. I barely got to meet them," she said, blowing the hair out of her eyes she awaited her response.
"Oh yeah, I guess you didn't," he chuckled nervously, lacing his own hands together and picking at the skin around his nails as a habit, "I pretty much selected them based in the elves that you had selected. Compatibility, if you will..."(Their pictures will be added to the character reference list!)
Penelope Plum. Intelligent, fast thinking, intricate. Overall a problem solver. Her job in the factory is as the head of the puzzles department, which includes any and all types of puzzles. She can complete a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle with no picture printed onto the pieces. She has a keen eye and can come to conclusions quickly in situations where any other individual would be unable to think clearly, if they were under pressure. She was paired with Kafka.
Lily Sweetpea. Quick, agile, cardiovascularly capable. The outwardly sweet elf was a vicious gymnast and parkour expert, and was ruthless on the field. And not only was she amazing at both sports, she could also go at each for hours on end. What also came in handy was that these skills weren't hindered or lessened should she be holding firearms, or even large melee weapons for that matter. She was paired with Lolita.
