"Oh...don't tell me you didn't tell her the story of Eanar?" Muuqe said.
The panther started walking, ignoring Muuqe's question. Katrina was still on her back and her legs were hurting. She needed to stretch them and she didn't know how long they'd been walking.
"You won't believe it," Muuqe continued, "but Eanar, many years ago, was a beautiful creature. He was the best sorcerer in this world and probably everywhere else. All kinds of creatures crossed our dimension to ask for help and advice about their situations. Eanar's title was Surodec, which in our ancient language means, The Handsome. He drove all the females crazy who knew him. Of course, he was a very attractive guy, right Aerdnah?" He said, giving the panther a teasing, little shot to the head. She rolled her eyes again and said nothing.
"Well," he continued, "he used to be not as greedy as he is now. He didn't ask for anything in exchange for his potions and spells, but one day, his heart started to become too vain. He didn't accept that the years had passed; that age was advancing and that his physic was declining. So he became obsessed and began to create a potion that would give him eternal life. That's what he craved the most; eternal youth. He knew that it was against nature, he knew he was challenging nature, but still he did... And, my dear, nature is wise. Eanar, along with a few others who joined him, took the potion and the result was catastrophic. Nature gave them eternal life, yes, but in exchange for what? Eanar transformed into a huge, fat, ugly frog; destined to live in the stinking Sucal pond. He then devoted himself to taking advantage of his potions, since he had nothing better to do. I suppose he wanted to feel that he was still valuable in some way. The others who'd joined him became energies in pain, called the Soslupxe since antiquity, which means The Banished."
"Enraged energies?" Katrina asked, scared.
"Yes." Continued Muuqe. "They are energies trapped in emaciated bodies that wander through the jungle eternally at night."
Katrina gave a startled gasp. They had forty-eight hours of night in this dimension!
"They'll live forever, but they can never get rid of those mortal bodies and be free energies in nature. Nor can they seek beings that are weak, for example on the verge of death, to seize their energy. On top of having to crawl everywhere! That was his punishment for trying to challenge nature and you have to be careful, Katrina, because if you see them just hide and don't look at them. Close your eyes, let them pass and then go. If you cross their path, even if you are healthy, they will torment you every night until you alone decide to take your life." Muuqe continued explaining.
Katrina felt the need to pee and her face turned white. She was deathly afraid. Muuqe realized and wanted to reassure her.
"Be quiet, woman, you're with us. Nothing will happen to you." And then he continued, changing the subject. "Aerdnah, thank goodness that you didn't take that transformation potion. Do you remember? Only nature knows what could have happened to you if..."
Aerdnah turned so abruptly that Katrina fell to the floor and Muuqe was suddenly speechless.
"Shut up, stupid pony! That's none of your business or anyone elses! Say something about it again and I swear I'll nail my claws into your stupid face!" She roared, and disappeared into the undergrowth at full speed.
Katrina hadn't yet risen from the ground or said a word when the horse bent its head down.
"I shouldn't have pressed that issue." He said, with his head still bent down.
Katrina didn't know if she should ask but Muuqe inspired her enough confidence to do so.
"What happened to that potion? Transformation potion, you said?"
"I'd love to tell you about it, but that's what she has to do if she wants you to know. Besides, we're already here next to Eanar's house." He said with a sad tone. He knew it had been an inopportune comment.
Katrina opened a gap with her arms between the plants and could see the most unpleasant looking pond several meters away from them.
"Does Eanar live there?" She asked a little scared, and swallowed hard.
