Spruce had a choice. To flee with the Silkwings, or to stay and raise some apparently "very important" Silkwings. Spruce stayed to raise the Silkwings. He liked the idea of having some fame in his talons, raising the dragonets that would save them all.
He just had to hope that his wife's egg got smashed with the others. His wife, Agrias, of course, ended up to be a Silkwing, who later on died. But she had a egg that Spruce didn't ask for, and he didn't want a hybrid running around a cave, acting all special. He encountered that stuff before. It was enough to make you sick.
Spruce paced on the mountain. He followed the directions exactly to get to the cave where the Silkwing eggs were. And he hasn't found it yet.
"Where IS the darn thing." Spruce muttered. "I swear, if I'm late for the hatching, I will-" Spruce was cut off as some kind of trap door opened up as a Leafwing head poked out.
"Hi Spruce!" Ivy said. "Why didn't you ask where this thing was earlier? Almost all the eggs hatched already."
"How many still need to hatch?" Spruce asked, raising his voice to scare Ivy. She was usually easy to scare and threaten to get information out of. But she seemed too happy to see how mean he was getting.
"One." She said. "Two hatched a day earlier than they were supposed to. Two more just hatched. So one more is hatching. Oh, and someone is looking for you."
Spruce tilted his head to the side. "Someone's looking for me?"
"Stop being a snail already!" Ivy said. "I don't want to miss the last egg hatching!" A second later, Ivy's head disappeared in the hole. Spruce followed, expecting a staircase, and splashed into water at the bottom. Ivy giggled as he got up, water dripping from his snout.
"It's not funny." He growled.
"It definitely is not funny." Ivy said. But by all the snorting noises she was making, she was definitely finding it funny.
"Just take me to the egg already." He hissed. "And WHO is looking for ME?"
"Someone you know." Ivy sang as she walked down a passageway. The cave was surprisingly big.
Well, I guess they are raising five dragonets.
After walking through many passages, they finally reached the hatching room.
And Agrias was there.
"SPRUCE!" She cried. "I THOUGHT I NEVER WOULD SEE YOU AGAIN!"
"And I was hoping that I would never see you again." He muttered under his breath. "That's it. I resign from this. I'm not raising dragonets with her." He pointed at Agrias as sadness spilled over her face.
"But... I though-" She started
"What, that I would be excited to see you?" Spruce spat.
"Yeah! We haven't seen each other in a year! I thought you would be happy!"
"Well, I'm not." Spruce hissed.
"Don't go now!" Ivy said. "The last egg is hatching NOW!" Ivy was right; a few cracks have already spread across the egg, more appearing every second.
But the dragonet that popped out, Spruce wanted to kill.
It was HER. The egg that...
Spruce didn't finish the thought. He leaped at the small dragonet and grabbed its neck in her talons.
"STOP!" Agrias jumped at Spruce, flame silk coming from her wrists.
"I didn't know you were flame silk!" Spruce tried. He let go of the dragonet as she squeaked with confusion. Spruce turned around and ran.
"YOU WILL PAY FOR TRYING TO KILL A DRAGONET!" Agrias was shouting. He opened the trapdoor and jumped into the open air, catching the wing currents. They had to hope that no Hivewings were nearby.
But of course, a patrol was scouting the area and saw Spruce and Agrias fighting midair.
"Yeep!" Agrias let go and started to flee, but a Hivewing bit into her neck before she got away.
"AGRIAS!" Spruce called. He spent his whole life losing dragons, he didn't want to lose another. As much as he hated her for having a egg, part of him still loved her.
But it was too late now. Agrias was already falling from the Hivewing's talons, dead.
Spruce turned around and bolted to the remains of the poison jungle._________________________
This have been sitting in my google docs for a day. I just finished it today at a farm. With a puppy beside me.
He's adorable... I wish I had a recent picture of him.-Wings_Of_Fire350
