I groan as I open my eyes to see the sunlight filtering through my window.
Damn, it's morning already...I wanted to sleep some more.
Since Freshman year had started, I've developed a habit of waking up at 6:30am myself. So, I don't need my alarm anymore.
I go about my morning routine and after taking a shower and getting ready, I head down stairs for breakfast. I find mom there, setting down my bowl of cereals on the table.
"Good morning mom."
"Good morning Andrea. Don't you have a test today?"
"Yeah," I say, sitting down at the table and starting to eat my breakfast.
"You have studied properly, right? Your uncle should be happy with the result."
I sigh and say, "Yes mom. I have studied properly."
"Don't you dare use that tone with me. Have you forgotten the huge favour that your uncle has done to us? How can you be so ungrateful to him? He's paying your fees because he knows that you will not disappoint him— so appreciate his kindness and study properly."
I grit my teeth and hurriedly finish eating up. Just before heading out of the house, I say, "No mom, I haven't forgotten uncle's insanely huge favor. Goodbye."
I mount my bicycle and head off to school. Things have been like this ever since uncle Reuben told my parents that he would be paying my school fees. What he told them is that he knows how good I am at academics so he would be quite happy to pay my fees. Since school has started, mom has kept on bugging me to study hard and get good grades. The only thing that I hear from her nowadays is mostly about studying and being grateful to uncle for all his help.
Can't help it Andrea. All this was bound to happen.
I take in a deep breath as I ride my bicycle. I got it on my sixteenth birthday from one of my cousins. I'm utterly and completely in love with it— it's so amazing.
I park my bicycle in the parking lot and go to my locker. There I find Alissa and Phoebe waiting as usual. A pang of sadness hits me as I remember that Ryan also used to be waiting for me near my locker like this. He became such a big part of my life and now I miss him so much.
"Good morning, girls,"I greet then.
"Good morning. We've got an urgent information for you. Mr. Brown has called you to his office to discuss something about the Student Council."
"Yeah, okay. I'll meet you guys during English class then?"
"Yup," they say together.
I don't share any classes with Alissa and Phoebe other than AP English now. I walk to Mr. Brown's office and knock on his door.
"Come in."
I push open the door and step into his office. It's sleek and clean as ever.
"Good morning, sir. What did you call me for?"
"Good morning, Andrea. I wanted to discuss the matter about the Vice President of the Student Council with you."
After Ryan left school and my junior year started, I have been promoted to the position of the President of the Student Council. Thus, the position of the Vice President is now empty.
"What is it, sir?"
"I've found a suitable candidate. Though, from what I've heard, you might not like the person I've appointed."
"Uhm, who is it, sir?"
He sighs and says,"It's Raymond Adkins."
My mind stops working for a moment. I look at Mr. Brown dubiously and he goes on to explain," I know neither you nor Raymond like each other but he is currently the best and most deserving student to be the Vice President. You both will have to set aside your differences and work together from now on."
