After the darkness overtook me, I awoke to find myself alone at a campfire.

Is this the afterlife?

"Mark? Jacob? Simon?" I called out to the woods.

Suddenly, a thought struck me.

"Eli? Chris? Terrence?!" I yelled, if this is the afterlife, and our plan worked, then they should be here, too.

Suddenly, a black fog surrounded me.

I found myself in a school.

There were clumps of... are those bloody body parts?

I was about to call out, but suddenly, my heart started pounding in my chest.

I should stay silent.

That was the one thought running through my head at the time.

I found a locker and hid in it. Waiting until my heart stopped pounding.

I stepped out of the locker quietly, and walked through the building.

I heard some kind of machine in a room, and I quickly went in.

I found a ginger-haired girl working at some kind of generator.

"Oh, you're here." She whispered, not even looking up, "Come and help me with this."

I was confused. It wasn't a command, the tone of her voice made it sound more like... an expectation.

"I've never even seen this thing before, how am I meant to help?" I asked.

That was when she finally looked up. Her face a mask of shock.

"Oh. You're new here." She muttered, then shook her head furiously, "That's fine. Just connect the wires. When the generator starts getting warm, you're going to have to quickly locate and flip the switch that glows. If you don't, the generator will explode in your face. Trust me, you don't want that. We're stuck in here with the Legion, so if you see a masked person running at you with a knife whilst breathing heavily, run in the other direction."

I nodded, getting all of that information stored inside my head.

"Wait, the Legion? Are there more of them?" I asked.

"No, from what I can understand, they are four souls inhabiting one body."

So it's like Ennard, but human.

"Alright." I sighed, getting to work, "Why are we even working on the generators anyway?"

"We need to escape. If we power five generators and then open the exit gates, we'll be able to escape. If you get caught by the killer, you're getting hanged. Trust me, it hurts. And the sacrifice hurts even more." She responded in a hushed voice, like she didn't want to be heard.

I'm pretty sure this generator is the loudest thing in a 24 metre radius.

"Why do you speak as if you've experienced it?" I asked.

"Because I have. Death isn't permanent here."

Wait, so I'm not in the afterlife?

I quickly patted my stomach. There was no gaping hole there.

I checked my smell. No smell of rotting flesh.

How?

I don't know.

I don't want to know.

Is it the Remnant?

I thought fire burns it away.
