"Wow, this is romantic," Gabrielle observed ten minutes later sarcastically as Mick sat across from her at dinner.  He was hunched over a plate of corn on the cob and bowl of baked beans. They were seated opposite one another at a picnic table set in an outdoor dining area that dawned an aggressively campy southern theme.

"I know it's awesome!!" Mick agreed. He smiled merrily while shoveling a giant scoop of chili into his mouth. After swallowing a few savory bites he skipped ahead to the next subject, not bothering to use a napkin to wipe his chin clean.

"So tell me more about you and Ryan...."

——

Gabrielle spent the next twenty minutes filling Mick in on the last few years of her life on the island. She told him about everything from Ryan to Johanna, to Sean. But mostly she talked about her romance with Sean. At the end of her speech she looked off into the tangerine city skyline, appearing as though she wanted to escape from all the memories.

Back at the table Mick was still stuck on the fact that Gabrielle had actually slept with someone from town. Hell, he'd never heard of her hooking up with anyone. He tried imaging what she would look like having sex but couldn't quite picture it.

Mick now genuinely admired this guy Sean, whom he'd actually met a few times. Leaning back in his chair he wondered how in the world had Sean scored her. Holy fuck, he thought, he'd never even heard the dude speak. Sean was basically mute.

"Sean the Lion", Mick sighed longingly before catching Gabrielle's curious stare. "Anyway," he snapped, "that's great you fell for Sean and everything, but how does Ryan tie into all this again?"

"Oh, right, Ryan", Gabrielle said looking down.

The realization that Ryan was an after thought made Mick's heart skip a beat. This is fucking fantastic, he thought smirking.

"So Ryan was jealous of me and Sean, so he ruined it," she said matter of factly. "He basically kind of cock blocked the whole thing."

In his head, Mick did a happy little dance at the sound hearing ryan be openly slammed.  Taking  a cool swig of Beer, he paused mid gulp to enjoy the moment, before forcing himself to swallow. His heart was singing. Man if there was ever a time to break out into dance! But now was not the time to celebrate, he reminded himself. He'd need to look serious if he wanted her to divulge more.

"Sad little man," he sighed while straining to form a pretend frown.

At that Gabrielle laughed out loud.

"Ha! Sad little man" she echoed.
