Mick got off of the phone with Gabrielle and bolted out of his bedroom, where he almost ran straight into his roommate, Hope, mid flight. Hope stepped directly in front of him, blocking his path down the hall with a smug look on her face as if ready for war.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Hope cleared her throat before chiding, "Hey lover boy, did you have fun last night?"

Oh yea. Sure. It was fun," Mick said with a guilty side smile.

Incidentally, all he had gotten from the night before was a kiss, but he felt elated all the same. His mind wandered, flashing back to the morning. He couldn't believe how happy he'd felt waking up next to Gabrielle in his bed. And how she had —.

Hope rolled her eyes , cutting his boyish thoughts off mid flight. "Soooo, you didn't happen to bring anyone back to the guest bedroom after you came in?"

Shit , Mick thought. The guest bedroom was off limits to his random hook ups. Mick knew that. But he really wanted to impress Gabrielle. Besides, his pride wouldn't allow him to take her back to his own bedroom. It was too messy.

Hope tapped her foot impatiently and crossed her arms looking annoyed while he continued his stammering.

"Mick did you or did you not bring a girl back to the guest bedroom?" Hope demanded.

As Hope blinked her strawberry blond lashes waiting for a response, Mick looked down at his feet actually feeling somewhat ashamed of himself. He genuinely hated having to lie to Hope. Lying in general was a real road block in his life. He had no problem breaking promises or being an asshole. But he simply could not lie. It was shitty.

"Mick please look at me when I'm asking you a question."

Mick averted his eyes once again and smirked despite himself. He forgot how fun it was to fuck with women when they started playing the mom card. Who did Hope think she was anyway? It was sweet that she  cared so much about his love life and all... but come on. Hope was way out of line.

"Seriously, I swear it wasn't me," Mick said laughing.

"Hope drew closer, backing him further into the corner, while also literally blocking the hall with her round broad shoulders. "Oh really?," she said. "Well, then how come when I re-made the bedding this morning I found a bunch of crumbs in the bed,?".

"Fuck," Mick said frantically under his breath while darting his eyes in a not so subtle plea for help. He hadn't remembered to double check the sheets.

He had tried to make the bed so carefully too, and even lovingly arranged all of Hope's cute little throw pillows the way she liked them. "Damn it," he thought. He should have known better than to let Gabrielle eat cookies in bed.

Again Mick unwittingly smiled as his thoughts drifted back to the night before. He couldn't believe how awesome Gabrielle had turned out to be... how cool. It was as if in her drunken state she'd transformed into a whole new version of herself right before his eyes.  But this was no time for daydreams. Hope was in his way,  he was late for work, and desperate times called for desperate measures.

Not knowing what had come over him next, Out of sheer impulse, he backed up and then charged full speed ahead at Hope, where in one swoop , he knocked her over and onto the ground with one direct blow. His decision to run her over was so spontaneous that Hope didn't have a chance to know what hit her. Before she could protest Mick had aggressively shoved her down on the floor and was already devilishly laughing and running past her down the hall towards the kitchen. Hope tried hoisting herself up off the ground to chase after him, but it was no use. Mick was already twenty step ahead of her by the time she even made it back up on her freckled pink feet.

Grabbing his backpack, Mick escaped past the living room and joyously flung open the front door, feeling out of breath, while Hope meanwhile continued shouting, "Who was the girl, Mick!? Tell me her name"!

Mick paused at the front door as he contemplated "talking back" to Grace as a final option. Why not? he thought hastily while slipping on his oldest pair of  flip-flops.

"Just go ahead and call her Crumbs in the bed!," Mick yelled playfully over his shoulder . And with  that, he left devilishly laughing out of the house, banging the screen door behind him.

As Mick reached inside the safety of his  truck, catching his breath, he gazed down at the empty packages of cookies in the passenger cup holder, feeling exhilarated. Gabrielle and her late night snacks.... he thought. "Crumbs in the bed" was too freaking cute!
