We all seek to organise things,
Put labels on things,
Sort the world into neat boxes.
We aren't to blame for this, really.
We all seek organisation, order and stability, and no wonder.
But life will always be messy.
The unfiltered, pure, unrefined world, along with the rough cut nature of humanity,
Is a perfect imperfection no one can understand. We hold the keys to this universe, to hope, life and the world,
But we are also the sickness, the despair, and we are doomed to die.
That's partially why we'll never be able to organise this world.
There will always be edge cases,
There will always be questions we will never be able to answer,
There will always be messy tattered edges to our explanations.
There will never be a perfect society,
There will never be eternal light. The universe is most likely infinite,
While we are not.
We're messy unfinished beings,
Trying to comprehend infinity,
And to make order out of chaos.
We've been given the gift of reasoning, of logic,
But it almost seems to be a joke from the universe,
As it's just enough to comprehend ourselves, and not big enough to comprehend the bigger picture.
I dont know whether we're doomed by the flaws we hold,
Or whether that will be our one final hope,
And I'll never know ultimately. Many have asked one question.
What does it actually mean to be human?
There's many answers to that,
But one of the best I've heard,
Is that we are just finite beings grappling with infinity.
We are both the answer the universe has been looking for, and it's sickness.
Let's just hope our perfect imperfections lead us towards a brighter world,
And the appreciation of our problems,
Our humanity,
Might just save us from falling to pieces.('This is one of those times when the human need to categorise and catalog things runs up against messy reality. There will always be edge cases, and just about every mountain is an edge case.' Tom Scott)
