Peeking at Malar from the corner of his eyes, Ajey commented “chashma toh main pehenta hu…phir tum ko kaise nehi dikhai de raha hai??????”
Finding Ajey so confident, Malar again rechecked thinking that she might have done a mistake.
But even after carefully scrutinizing, all Malar could see was an old stall with few tables and benches placed in front of it.
Totally puzzled, Malar again asked “kaha hai????”
Raising his brows at Malar, Ajey declared “laagta hai bhukh ki wajah se tumhari aankhon pein pressure padda hai!!!!...”
Feeling lost, Malar this time triple checked, but again failed.
Confirming Malar’s nightmare, Ajey pointed at the old stall “arrey dekho naa….wahi toh itna bada board laaga hua hai ‘Bille di Hatti’ka”
Giving an uncomfortable look, Malar meowed “are you…sure Ajey???”
Reassuring her, Ajey asserted “Dettol ke 100% se bhi zyaada sure!!!!”
Saying this Ajey held Malar’s hand and dragged her with him towards the stall.
Making Malar sit on one of the benches, Ajey sat opposite to her.
Signalling with his hand, Ajey called out to a guy “Chhotu yaar zara yaha ka bhi order leeke jaa!!!!!”
Shifting her gaze from Ajey to Chhotu and then again back to Ajey, Malar curiously asked “tum ko usska naam kaise pataa????”
Suddenly lowering his voice Ajey said “yeh naa ek bahut bada secret hai!!!!..(gesturing with his hand to come closer)…idhaar aao main tumhe baata ta hu”
Inching her face towards Ajey, Malar inquisitively mumbled “kya secret hai????”
First Ajey looked around, to make sure that no one was watching them, as if he was going to disclose some national secret. Then he with utmost seriousness whispered “India mein naa…har dusre dukaan mein…ek Chhotu toh zarur hota hai!!!!”
Sitting back straight, Malar gave it a thought “yeh kaisa secret hai????”
It was then that Malar noticed Ajey’s face, who pathetically was trying not to laugh.
Pouting at Ajey, Malar exclaimed “hawwwww…how mean yaar Ajey….tum mera mazaak udda rahe the!!!!!”
Controlling his laughter, Ajey pleaded “tauba tauba….tumhara mazaak uddane ke bareme socchna bhi ghor paap hai!!!!”
Before Malar could make a come back, ‘Mr Chhotu’ himself appeared on the spot to save Ajey’s butt.
Using it as a distraction Ajey got busy in ordering the food “doo plate garma garam chole bhature…aur doo glass lassi…”
Tuning his head, Ajey solely focused on Malar.
Oblivious to Ajey’s gaze, Malar first hesitantly touched the table to check weather it had dust on it. Then she examined the steel glass which supposedly had drinking water in it. Further on noticing the worn out condition of the bench on which she was sitting, Malar moved a bit in her place to make sure that it would not scumb to death because of her weight.
Ajey who was ardently observing Malar with his chin resting on his hand, finally asked “tum ne iss se pehele kabhi roadside stall se khaana nehi khaaya hai naa????”
Acknowledging Ajey’s question, Malar nodded her head in negative.
Ajey reassured “fikar not….main hoon naa!!!...jaise chai biscuit khaana sikhaya…waise hi baaki saari cheeze sikha dunga!!!!...I mean khaa ke maaro…bina khaa ke maarne mein koi faida thodi naa!!!!”
Absorbing Ajey’s each and every word Malar gave him a small smile. At times, Ajey amused her with his philosiphies. He so easily drew happiness from these little moments, to which Malar was blind till date.
Malar’s train of thoughts was interrupted, when she saw Mr Chhotu approaching their table, with a tray in his hand.
As soon as Mr Chhotu placed the two plates filled with chole bhature on the table with the glasses of lassi, Malar’s nostrils were invaded by the aroma of the food.
Raising her hand, Malar slowly dragged one of the plates towards her.
Shutting up all the apprehensions in an isolated corner of her head, Malar tore a small piece of the bhature and with utmost care dipped in the chole.
Satisfied with the propotion of chole which she was able to pick with her bhature, Malar placed the first morsel in her mouth.
Automatically Malar’s eyesgot closed, as her taste buds devoured the food.
Ajey, who was patiently studying the expressions on Malar face, eventually enquired “how is it?????????”
Opening her eyes, Malar eagerly responded “Ajey…this tastes sooooooo good!!!....I mean thoda spicy hai….but yummy!!!!!”
Satisfied that Malar loved it, Ajey started eating.
The whole time Ajey couldn’t take his eyes off Malar. She seemed so pristine like a baby simply enjoying her food. At that moment, Ajey realised that the girl sitting in front of him was not someone who would be impressed by looks or riches. But she purely craved for these little joys.
Ajey was busy with his food when he found Malar giving him an innocent look.
Tilting his head slightly, Ajey raised his brow as if asking ‘Kya hua?’
Feeling a bit nervous, Malar naively requested Ajey “woh…mere chole katam ho gaye hai…can you share with me!!!!!!”
Listening to Malar’s request, Ajey puffed his cheek, which made her face drop.
Ajey pathetically tried to comtrol his urge of pulling Malar’s cheeks.
Taking a deep breath to distract himself from all the wild thoughts, Ajey just moved his plate towards Malar.
Seeing this, Malar’s face instantly lighted up like a bulb.
Mumbling a quick ‘thank you’ to Ajey, Malar happily attacked on his plate.
While Ajey the love-struck being was filling his stomach with Malar’s cuteness.
Setting the empty glass of lassi on the table, Malar announced “I am full…chalo chalte hai!!!!”
Beaming at Malar, Ajey exclaimed “ohhh meri beard wali doctor…pehele aapna muh toh pocch lo!!!!”
Becoming conscious, Malar started searching for a napkin.
Leaning across the table, Ajey wiped Malar’s upper lip with his handkerchief, which took her by surprise.
Invoulantarily Malar looked into Ajey’s dark eyes, which was already on her.
But their ‘aankhon-ki-gustakhiyaan-maaf-ho-wala’ moment got disturbed by Mr Chhotu who spat “ohhhh ji yeh raha aap logo ka bill!!!!”
Instantly tearing away from each other, both of them shifted their gaze towards Mr Chhotu.
Taking the bill from his hand, Malar got busy with fishing the money out of her purse. While for Ajey, he couldn’t stop himself from cussing Mr Chhotu’s bad timing.
Once done with clearning the bills, both of them headed towards the hospital.
